We have one client who owns a pair of 7' tall McIntosh XR290 speaker enclosures that come in at just over $25k for the pair. Each one has woofers, 13 midranges and 24 tweeters per enclosure. Each one runs off of it's own 1000w McIntosh amp, and each amp has to run off of it's own dedicated circuit, or they'll pop the breakers in the panel.

This is what the speakers look like:

When it comes to audio, there is such a thing as too much. That picture is proof.

              Hot!
              I run this puppy:

It has a weird low laying distortion which changes when you play with the volume knob. The volume knob also works half assed (as of 2-3 years now) anyone have an idea how to fix this?

My dad is somewhat of an audiophile. He has 4 Celestion speakers in the living room, Audiolab amp & pre-amp, & California Audio Lab CD player.

He also has a MacIntosh amp, but its out of service.
                yay for your daddy

Haha - I missed that whole post. Truth, daddy's toys don't mean squat.

No need to be a douche...I just clearly wanted to post that he's an audiophile.

It's soon going to be renamed the "how I went deaf" room. ;)

Which deftechs? I have defs' myself - the 15" woofer front towers & the 10" woofer center - bpx rears, I want to say the fronts were 3000tl's, and a clr 3000 center.

I've got the 777es (2002-ish?) Sony receiver - basically the 9000 series separates in one box. Sony killed it pretty quick once people figured out what it was for the money. I won't replace it until it dies, and even then I really only want a B&K to replace it.

I learned the hard way though that I have too much speaker for the room they were in. It never sounded great, but it will in my new place since the room is bigger.

I have a 20 year old Denon receiver with one of the first Denon 5-disc changers and a pair of Polk Audio RTA8 speakers.

I paid $1600 for the four pieces - in 1988 dollars.

If a M3 was 35,000 back then, and a new one is 60,000 - then you spent like 3000 bucks, and I bet half of that was for "them new fangled little silver LP" player.
