    Garmin vs TomTom

I know squat about GPS, does anyone have personal experience?

How do these stack up? I know there are diff models, but overall performance is what im asking about.

The Tom Tom one, the third edition that recently came out is one of easiest to use in its price range. From what I've heard the Garmins are more reliable and accurate than the Tom Toms. A new brand that recently came out is "Navigon" and they're pretty much the Tom Tom One. The difference is it has a new feature called "landmarks" where as you're driving it shows the interstate and high way signs as you come up on them.

The Navigon 2100, the cheapest model also have this MPH function for those of you how have broken speedos.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.

I agree, Garmin FTW. I use it on a regular basis. I wouldn't even bother with Tom Tom. For one reason: The commercials were fucking stupid.

Get garmin for a few reasons:

                a. Their products kick ass
                b. Their operational world HQ is in Olathe, KS (a burb of Kansas City)
                c. They update the fuck out of their map software so any type of up-to-date map you want, you get.
                d. they rule the US while TomTom is more popular in Europe. This means if you plan on staying a 'merican instead of becoming a cheese eating surrender monkey then Garmin is the way to go for shit like accesories and support.

Which "type" of gps model are you looking at? Handheld? Car? Rugged?

Garmin has great models for all types, the TomTom only really has a decent car one. And even there, for form-factor and features Garmin still beats it.
                Im now E30less.

im getting a car model for my girlfriends bday because she is directionally retarded.

i get tired of getting calls like "which way do i go on I-270 to get home", when shes lived in columbus all her life.

Garmin has been making aircraft avionics for years, they know what they are doing.

I just got the 2008 update DVD from Garmin, free. I extracted it to an SD card, popped the card in my unit and now it is up to date! Pretty cool.

Garmin without a doubt. Works in the woods or Europe.

Someone told me that Garmin Makes TOMTOM is that correct?

                          Anyway i have had the:

Garmin Nuvi 370 -Great product! it got me to e30fest last year
TomTomONEXL - Also great but it had very little memory

Then decided to trade in the TomTom and get the Beast...

                          Garmin Street Pilot 7200....

All i can say about it SICK!!!!

                          It even has a remote.

Only downside is that is it so big, i cannot use it in the e30...

But if you are looking for a cheaper alternative i would say stick to the GARMIN Nuvi series.
