I was wrong, it still restarts, just takes longer. It also froze when I was running my AVG software, going to try and run adaware next, thats what I have been using for years for spyware.

    running msconfig gives me:

    khooker
    AGRSMMSG
    ezSP_Px
    tgcmd
    PartSeal
    jusched
    MXOALDR
    RetroExpress
    Onetouch
    avgcc
    HPWuSchd2
    qttask
    iTunesHelper
    dumprep 0 -k
    Monitor
    bittorrent
    ctmon
    Ares
    Adobe Reader Speed Launch
    HOTSYNCSHORTCUTNAME
    HP Digital Imaging Monitor
    HP Photosmart Premier Fast Start
    Microsoft Office
    Remocon Driver
    Timer Recording MAnager
    VAIO Action Setup (Server)
    Adobe Gamma
Picture Motion Browser Media Check Tool

Is it going to hurt my comp restarting all the time??

It wont stay on long enough to run anything anymore.

Do you have an extra power supply? They are like ~$40 or less for one that is enough power for ~90% of desktop pcs. I had a computer do the same thing recently at the office. If it doesn't work take it back to the store and get your money back.

None of those are really scary, although you could disable dumprep. You dont really need that at startup (im not even sure why its there).

Is this a homebrew machine? I just ask because you have a mix of Sony and HP utilities running.

This is usually a good indicator that its not an infection. Its likely hardware.

Go to start, run, and type in eventvwr

Under system it will list the major system events. There will be ones with red Xs and say error. Look for "delayed write failed" or memory allocation errors. Also see if you can download and install a program like Speedfan. It will let you see temps and voltages.

As for the restarts: Its not the restart that will be harming the machine, but the cause. If its shitting on itself because the CPU is overheating you have a real problem. Same goes for voltage spikes.

                  Got speed fan on there.

                  Fan 1- 1854 RPM
                  Fan 2- 1534 RPM
                  Fan 3- 1592 RPM

                  plus or minus 50 RMP

                  Temp 1 42C
                  Temp 2 43C
                  Temp 3 39C
                  HD0 37C

                  Speed 01 43%
                  Speed 02 35%
                  Speed 03 43%

                  VCore 1.52V
                  +12V: 11.80V
                  +3.3V: 3.30
                  +5V: 5.05V
                  Vin2: 15.50 V
                  +5VSB: 6.85V
                  Vbat: 0V

This is all with the comp just chilling on the desktop screen. CPU usage between 1 and 8 percent

                  Opening adaware:
                  Temps went to
                  1- 45
                  2- 45
                  3- 42
                  HD0- 39

                  Running adaware:
Voltages changed, by no more than .1V lower than previous readings.

                  Temp:
                  1- 49
                  2- 48

Then it rebooted before I could see anything else, and has restarted itself 2, I rebooted in safemode the second time.

Went to circuit city, grabbed some ram. Seems to be working better (posting from it now). I had Infineon 512mb DDR, picked up PNY 1GB DDR. Picked up an extra as well, figured why not Ive got 2 ports for the stuff. Right now Im running on just the one gig with no problems. Thanks for your help Mr. Stewart! you seem to have spared me a 800 dollar expense.

bump, for help from those bored at work

Also, it seems that every file I download is corrupt. I have tried, firefox avg and spybot and none of them will run the installers. Also, internet explorer randomly will close, with an error message.

Computer is again staying on fine.

Dcom makes me think of NIC drivers.

Just backup critical files and perform a clean reinstall of XP or whatever you use. Reformat using NTFS
