    Best beginner camera

I am looking to get a new digital camera. I am asking you guys because I know quite a few of you are photographers. I know almost nothing about photography but I want to learn and would like a camera that I can learn with. What is a good camera that is user friendly and relatively cheap?
    Thanks

Budget would probably be around $300-$350. Maybe a little more.
LivingLegend, that is pretty much what I have now:).

I saw you wanted user friendly and cheap and it doesn't get any more user friendly and cheap than that. If you want some serious advice you shouldn't listen to me, I don't know anything beyond what i learned in a term of high school photography.

            This one's very simple!

j/k :p.....I don't know what a good camera would be.

I think you're going to have to be more precise about what you're going to do with it/what you want it for.

If you want one of those slim little portable ones, any one will do. (they are mostly all the same)

If you are looking into getting something more photographer friendly (DSLR) then go with a Canon Digital Rebel Xt.

I will be taking pics of cars with it. Looking for adjustments and stuff that I can mess with. I am going to take a photography class and I would like all the adjustments- shutter speed, exposure, etc-all that stuff. Not really sure how to explain what I want because I don't know the terms yet, but basically a camera that can grow with me as I get better.

used rebel xt with a kit lens. Some say to start with a point and shoot, i think slr is a good base.

Used Nikon D40 or D50. Or 35mm SLR since you'll be taking a photography class.

Is SLR a model or a type of camera? I seriously know next to nothing about cameras.

It's a Type. Single Lens Reflex. Basically, like the old 35mm cameras but digital. So you have options to upgrade with various lenses, flashes, filters etc. If you are into photography that's what you should get it, not a point and shoot with a tiny lens, and 1000000x digital zoom and no ability to switch lenses.

                          just my 2 cents.

Ok, that sounds like what I want. What would be a good one in my price range?

I just got a Canon Powershot G9. It is a point and shoot that is also able to be fully manual. I got it on Ebay for 420.00 delivered and I highly recommend it.
