True. I cant eat anything fast food. Im not a food snob, I love the way it tastes. But I keep my calories under 1850 for the day. And anything on a fast food menu does away with that. Ive seen a fat ass eat a whole awesome blossom or bloomin onion thing. 200g of fat? Thats my fat intake for somewhere around 10 days lol.

1850 for the day? Holy shit - are you a very small person, or do you simply never exercise?

There is a formula for calculating calories needed, but here is a simple way to do it:

Have you ever wanted to know how many calories you need to eat per day in order to lose, maintain or even gain weight? It's absolutely critical to understand that calories in and calories out equate to success when you're on a fitness program. Nutrition is so important that some personal trainers say it makes

For instance, I need approximately 3120 calories a day simply to maintain weight. I also workout everyday fairly strenuously. Plus, with what I do I walk a LOT (in season, 4-6 miles a day), so calorie needs can be high.

People just need to avoid fat, and simply walk a bit. I weighed 240lbs in 8th grade... I'm now 23, weigh 235... think about that :). It just takes a little work.

If I had 1800 calories a day I'd feel like I was going to pass out :). You must need more than that.

That's the key right there. Moderation.

I never hit the chain burger joints save once every 3 weeks-month my mind makes me go get a spicy chicken thing at Jack-in-Box with the curly fires.
I figure if I do a chain burgerjoint that often, I'm good.

My big one I'm focusing on is soda. I believe I should quit all together - another board member reminded me of this & it's good advice.
Bigger goal is to cut all caffine, but I have a home espresso machine I use daily, so I'm starting with soda & taking it from there.

I'm glad they no longer sell that Halo3 Mountain Dew - I was addicted to that horrible stuff.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

This can apply to many habits in life: food, drink, even exercise. Delving into something 'bad' to eat isn't a mortal sin if you only do it once in a while. Ditto for drinking. I'm mainly a wine & beer guy, but the only time I ever drink is the weekends....and even then its only one or two servings. As far as exercise goes, I hit the gym 3 times a week for 90 minutes - 1/3 of that being strictly cardio. I could probably do more but then I'd probably ache more than I really want :-P Its just enough to stay fit as well as maintain my weight.

Guilty as charged as well. Caffine is something I take in daily - not in huge quantities though. Every morning I grind up some Italian dark roast beans and brew up enough java for two 8oz mugs (I add cream and sugar too). I know some people who guzzle coffee all day.....makes me wonder what their stomach lining must look like. If I want a soda, I limit myself to just one 12oz can.

That's really the secret to staying healthy. Moderate the bad stuff to just once in a while and get some exercise on a regular basis. Its been proven to work time and time again.

Im 5'9 and at about 195 today. I go to the gym 6 days a week (actually just got back). I've always had the dream to be in the NFL... And when I realized that wouldnt happen, I figured Id try to be at 185 under 10% body fat. Im trying to cut fat drastically. Im down to about 13% body fat. And if you want a better calorie counter or maintainer, use mypyramid.org, its great.

But I know what Im doing. Most of my calories are from protein (or the carbs in my shakes) or whole grain carbs. Im a little lenient with my calories, but not with my fat intake.

And being 235 is Heavy, unless youre 6'4..

I'm not saying you don't know what you're doing; but you already know how drastic what you're doing is so I don't need to tell you that.

And 235 is heavy even at 6'4"... but I can almost bench my body weight now (which I'm happy with) and I think I have gotten my 40 time down under 4.9, which is faster than I was. I also took 20 seconds off my shuttle time, which is a big improvement over last year.

I'm training to run a couple of 10k's and maybe a half-marathon next summer... as well as do one of the Portland bike tours that goes for 50 or so miles.... for a guy who gets by playing golf, these are pretty major physical activities :).

working out and nutrition are an addictive thing just like cars.

4.9 is faster than most of the people here can run lol. I dont know many people who can continuously live on less than 2000 calories, but I dont expect that to be permanent.

The sad thing on that list is I used to always eat a Chicken burrito from chipotle after working out, because it seemed healthy. I mean it is, but I guess its just a lot of food. On cheat days you cant turn down a Chipotle burrito bowl though.

Id rather have two double doubles than a 4x4, which I actually had last night. I just hadn't had much of a lunch though, otherwise that's just too much for me :)

I have always eaten really bad food. I just finished a half sheet of pizza. I weigh 193 and am 6' 1-2".

All I do is sit-ups (maybe a few different kinds) pushups and a few different kinds or bar weight. I also have a heavy bag for cardio. Its cold as hell here so I stopped running. When I was running 3 miles a day I could basically eat whatever I wanted.

I remember going to a Deli and my friend ordered the special fries. Which was fries gravy and cheese. That was something I wasnt about to eat.

Nope, InNOut is probably considerably healthier than most burger places, but still their sauce is pretty bad. If you get a burger without the sauce it's probably half the calories...but then what's the point?! :D :D I just mentioned it because it's so damn good.

Anytime I get fast food burgers its always dry. You save so many calories, its ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE red meat - but one of those Jack/Box runs I described above they screwed up the order (I never used to check the sack before driving off) & put something that was their equiv. of a double 1/4#'er from Mick-y D's in the sack. I was already at home before I realized this, so I figured I'd just eat it.

                            Yeah. Bad move.

I threw up within the hour - I was sort of over-stuffed, but it wasn't that. I really had that feeling you get right before you get the flu, I was barely dizzy & almost shakey, like you wouldn't want to do precision work right then.

Yeah, I prayed to the throne & put my $6 where it should have gone initially.

Those big, cheap burgers are nasty - and that's from a guy who is truely into good meat grilled on a good BBQ/grill, and I eat most good cuts as rare as I can get away with.

I think everyone should pass on this craze of multiple patties of sub-standard grade meat from the fast food chains these days. A little poor grade hamburger, sure - but these stacks of crap meat like those ones you see from BK are going to kill people.

Stop going to the chain joints. Go get a reasonable (clenched fist size) size cut of quality red meat, grill it at home & have some great steamed veggies on the side. It's amazing what some seasoning does to steamed vegetables. Make 2 & have one for lunch the next day. Eating right isn't too tough.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

A fist is still a bit for someone to eat. And if that large of a piece of meat along with veggies dont get you full, you're probably fat lol.

As far as Jack In The Box youre right, I cant eat there. Everytime I do I get the shits for a couple days, starting about 10 minutes after I eat it.

How about making your own burgers even? I'll make a decent sized burger on a good soft wheat roll, no cheese, just lettuce and pickles. Its probably under 350 calories or so, and tastes 10x better than anything you can get from fast food. It used to be sweet at home my mom has a butcher block with an old hand crank meat grinder on it.. Throw some meat in there and its good to go.

It really isnt hard to eat healthy though. Eat good 6 days a week, have a little cheat day to "reward" yourself.

I went shopping lastnight, and EVERY bread except for one has high fructose corn syrup in it. How ridiculous is it, where we cant even get wheat bread thats natural. Unless you go to Trader Joes I suppose, then your stuff is safe.
