    The Official Movie Thread

I have been generally disappointed with the abundance of poor movies that have come out recently...well for a while now, i.e. Fred Clause, Enchanted, Hitman, This Christmas...just to name a few of the recent ones.

Where have all the good movies gone?

Here you can post the best movie/s you have seen recently and what made them worthwhile. They do not have to be recently released movies, just ones that you have recently seen; or perhaps ones that you look forward to seeing.

For example...one of my all time favorite movies American Beauty. I think it is one of the best movies of it's time to address the American "dream" as a valid issue within society, while divulging a more realistic world beneath the overly fantasized world. It characterizes a broad scope of humanity, whether or not you can directly relate to the characters personal issues you can adhere to their generalized problems. The movie uses a comic relief and awkwardness to relate even further to the viewer, which I feel was necessary to not appear to preachy. Overall a well proportioned flick that has enough of everything to make it well rounded and thought provoking.

Maybe that was too analytical...your turn

I agree with all of the above...i haven't seen The Squid and the Whale or Harold and Maude yet. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was an awesome idea that was filmed well.

I can vouch for The Squid and the whale. Excellent movie.

Really enjoyed Superbad and Knocked up as well.
I can also say the most touching movie I've ever seen is "The Notebook" with Ryan Gosling and that really hot bitch thats in it.

Recent flicks I liked were "No country for old men" & Gone baby gone. Eastern Promises was also halfway decent, although not as well done as A History of Violence. The film version of "Oil!": "There Will be Blood" looks like it has potential as well.

The Others, The Ninth Gate, Igby Goes Down, Amelie, Wall Street, 16 Blocks, House of Flying Daggers, Roger Dodger, Punch Drunk Love, Full Time Killer (Chinese film, and the best action movie of all time),

i feel like there a dozen more i'm forgetting. I can't think of anything remotely recent worth mentioning, except for Little Miss Sunshine, and maybe Babel, i just liked the music of that film. I hate American Beauty now. I think it just appeals to some people because you get to watch a guy go through a mid life crisis, smoke weed, and you get to see some bewbs. I used to love it, but after watching a couple more times, it just feels like an empty story.

Haven't seen any good movies recently since 300. Did watch Taxi 4 the other night (french movie, not the american bs remake, and the first 2 parts were much better).

Was told American Gangsta was good ? True / False ?

                          I just watched Stardust

If you liked big fish and the hitchhikers guide to the universe or whatever you should like it. Its a real deep fantasy drama film.

The futurama movie was great, didn't suck asshole like the simpsons. If you love futurama you will like it.

Ummm, "The Ten" was pretty good too. Its 10 stories about the 10 commandments, its a comedy so if you love religion you might not wanna watch it.

I also just saw "Walk the line" its old (2005) the johnny cash movie, but it was good.

American Gangster was great, I would see that

Death at a funeral was good, its a comedy. Its very "the royal tenanbaums"-ish

The man from earth, it was an inde film and really slow, but I thought it was excellent. The whole movie is just people talking in a room, but its really intriguing. Very K-Pax-ish without all the scene changes.

                          Movies you shouldn't see:
The last legion. This movie was bullshit, it had no story and was lame as hell
The.Deaths.Of.Ian.Stone Yeah, this movie stated out good, but it turned real stupid real quick
                          Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

The 9th Gate was a great movie, but then again I think Johnny Depp is a great actor...actually character actor. I can't wait for Sweeney Todd.

However, I hated History of Violence and 16 Blocks.

History of violence was an interesting concept but a complete let down as far as endings. As for 16 blocks...what the fuck was Mos Def saying throughout that whole entire film!! Bruce Willis will forever be John McClane...no one else. He should've just quit after the second die hard.
