What about watching coking shows and cooking along with them?

At our old house we had a TV set up. Was kind of nice to have something on as background noise while cooking/doing dishes.

And besides, I've seen TV's in BATHROOMS. THAT is bad.

I could understand the tv in the bathroom...
Sitting there, doing your business, no magazines to be found anywhere. Flip on the tv and sit there for hours.

For mothers day, i installed a computer and hooked it up to the kitchen TV for viewing of recipes.

The system stays on all the time, so all they have to do is hit video, and it switches over. My windows install was a skimmed down version and resolution to best suit the crappy LCD. But on this computer is all of the family's recipes... and web browser for quick check of email or cooking web sites.
MS Word was set up so it automatically pulls full screen for easy reading. The computer is networked as a remote server so other computers in the house can access the files to add or make changes, etc, at any time. Wireless keyboard and mouse are great to move over to the island and view from affar, though its a little small.

The computer is on the other side of the wall out of sight. Video is in the form of Svideo and keyboard and mouse are USB. The box is some random junk AT case i had lying around. I crammed a Athlon 550 mobo in it. Had to rebuild the PS to be relocated to front bottom of case. No cd, no floppy, pretty bare bones, but it gets the job done. (Black box is 12v supply to kitchen lighting)

My next "gift idea" (which i'm looking into this christmas) is to setup a biquad antanne to extend their wifi across the lake to the cabin, where we cant get high speed internet.

                      far too advanced.
Just setup a series of mirrors throughout the house.
Also, I enjoy the "techie" writeup ;)

                        wow, that looks really ghetto.

TVs are popular in the kitchen for people to occupy themselves when they are cooking. we install them all the time in Kitchen remodels

That's some... interesting wire management you've done there. Especially the twisting of the white cable going to the TV.

You understand you're derating the wire and probably losing some percentage of signal, right?

And TV's in the kitchen are very common. Just about every house we wire and install a system in has one, even some of the less extravagant homes.

Nice Samsung, I was looking at the same model some day ago.

TV's in the kitchen can come in great for the Misses if she wants to watch a cook program. Stuff like that makes it super handy. TV5......television Francaise..
