    unlocking cell phones

due to my catching fire, loss of income, getting screwed by my long term insurance plan, and 3 months in the hospital without money coming in, i was forced to switch to a budget cell phone company for the time being. on my drive to work everyday i pass by several cell phone places that offer to unlock and reflash any phone to cricket (my current shitty phone company). i am using my roommates old cell, which aside from being free, sucks ass. the features suck, crickets service sucks (both reception and customer), & to top it off, the battery goes almost completly dead from a full charge with one 10 min call. end rant

i have a nokia 5110 (actually 3 of them) that i would like to get flashed/unlocked so i could use it insted. the phone was orginally a t-mobile. can i do this myself? can they screw up the phone by doing it wrong? it is a sim card phone, does that make a difference?

i also have 4 razors, but they were total crap, so i would like to not use them if possable. that being said if the nokia can't be reformated would the razor be more suited for this?

thanks for helping a poor cripple out......
    greg

ps a new battery for the current phone is $40ish and there is no way it is worth spending on that phone

without reading your post, search the internet for the codes (I'ev found a few that way), if you are the owner or know the owner have them call and request a SIM Subsidy unlock code from the orig carrier, other than that you may need to find someone/store that will do it for a fee... GL

I work for T-Mobile. The reps there have to submit a SIM Subsidy unlock request which is in turn e-mailed to the customer. I imagine the RAZR unlock codes are very easy to obtain with a few mins on google. As far as the Nokia, not sure but it should be out there. There are forums...

i actually have 2 extra tmobile sim cards (never used them, so they are blank) any difference using them to unlock?

ALL the phones are mine. i found a loop hole in the shipping procedure for t mobile on warranty phones alowing me to keep the old ones, hence the multitude of extras, along with crappy phone manufactures

firstly, you will need to pm me on this loophole joint... trust me, for my own interests. Secondly, yes, by all means, if you own them, a call in requesting the codes will do it for you. Use the reason of you moving overseas and that should smooth out anything that might possibly need to be....

apparently this phone can do all kinds of fun stuff!

here's a question for all the phone "geeks" for lack of a better way to put it....
is any of the info contained here>>> http://www.indiamobiles.com/unlock_c...okia/5110.html

useful to the average Joe like myself as far as added features blocked by t-mobile, etc???

              thanks in advance

Did you get it unlocked yet? The people who do it everyday should be cool to serve you right - I was recommended to get my old Moto V551 unlocked in a Barber shop and sure enough $20 and 10 minutes later it was free to use any provider.

Isn't Cricket a CDMA provider? If so, your T-Mobile phone will not be able to be used because T-Mobile is a GSM provider. If your RAZR was a Sprint, Verizon, Altell or any other CDMA provider, then you will be able to unlock and use one of those. (If it doesn't have a SIM card, it's CDMA as CDMA providers do not use SIM cards. Yet.)

On this topic, I've got a Nokia 6070 that I bought in Croatia. It's locked to the Vodafone network.

I tried a few local places; all said they are not able to unlock the 6070. Maluco or others, do you guys have any tips/advice?

                          Thanks.

They might not be familiar with it.

No personal offense intended, but why do you want to unlock such a shitty phone? You can probably get a phone for free and spend less for a prepaid sim card next time you are abroad - and I assume you have a better phone for here.

If you need to unlocked, mail it to Europe and unlock it and have it shipped back. May take some time and cost just a little but would be most reliable. Or trust the intraweb:
