I lived in Jersey for about 6 years and I visit every year (family still lives in Northern Jersey).
It sucks...too crowded, dirty, and generally those you meet are losers. It is filled with either immigrants establishing their home in America (asian, indian, etc.), jews or black.
BUT on the opposite side, there are some gorgeous homes and land you can travel to as well as some very hot japs to consider! Either way it's still jersey and the most important part in it is the turnpike or Newark airport, which has steadily been under construction for the past 11 years.

I live in Jersey, like every other state it has it's pluses and minuses. Bottom part - if you have money, you are surrounded by beautiful homes, nice people, awesome scenery, if yo ain't got shit, you is in ghetto :drink:
I am 10 min away from the shore (where I keep my boat at the marina), 35 min away from NYC, 1 Hour away from Phila or Atlantic city. I lived in New York, Phila, Nashville and San Francisco, I like NJ the best at this point of my life (family, kids, relax) ...
BTW last year, 2 townships in NJ were voted as the top 10 places to live in US

My mom used to live in Tom's River - "at the shore" as they say. Supposed to be in the nicest area of the state. Looks like Vlad confirms it.
From my midwestern point of view, my impression of the place was that it was, in fact, Tony Soprano-Land.
What the hell is up with the people that instead of having lawns, they cover their yards in decorative rock/gravel?????
To be sure, it beats the hell out of Newark - which is what most people think of when the think of NJ.
I'll take Caintuckkee over Joisey anyday. But I guess we all have our local biases.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3

Upkeep. Figure, many people rent out their shore houses when they aren't using it, often on a weekly basis. Someone that's staying there for a week isn't going to want to do yard work. Also, during the off season it cuts down on the amount of trips you gotta make out to it to keep the place looking decent.-Dave

And upkeep is right. I live in Pismo Beach, and in our specific neighborhood on the hill, 1/3 houses are vacation homes. Its better than coming to vacation and have to plow down 5 foot grass.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head off

Is it reality? Why always hitting on NJ? Any reason?1988 M3, 97 840, 99 XJ

Back in early '01 I was in NJ at my Mom's and they had some kind of open casting call for extras for the Sopranos. The place they had it at had to be shut down and blocked off by the cops due to the turnout.
I remember the Guidos on the TV talking about how proud they were of the show and how much they wanted to be a part of it.
No, its not all old guys in black socks and white shoes, but the quotient there seemed a bit higher to me.
In fairness, the "more tattoos than teeth" quotient in my fair Commonwealth is probably in the top 10 in the Country. :-)Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3

I grew up in Somerset county (central NJ) with a place in Lavallette (the barrier island, halfway between Point Pleasant and Seaside). Yeah, Jersey has it's shitty areas - anywhere from hickish in the south, to guido assholes up north. My family was about as average upper-middle class as it gets...but one thing that made me happy that I grew up in Jersey was meeting all the hicks (though I certainly met more of those once I travelled south) and assholes - it was a pretty insane variety of people.
Went to school out in VA and moved to NoVA/DC where I've been for the past three years. I won't ever again live in Jersey, but not because it was a bad experience growing up there or because it's a bad place...just a 'been there, done that' kinda thing.
Short answer: nah it ain't as bad as everyone says. Anyone who bases judgement based on a handful of visits (to probably a few common bad areas) is a poorly informed idiot. As for the people that come out of there that say they hated it, well, there are plenty of those from anywhere.
