You probably just remove the old one and install the new one.

take it to the dealer or independent shop and have the code read. make offer from there.

Swap refers to putting in a 5 speed.

Can you recommend someone near Gilbert?

Its the same swap pretty much as what you'd find on an E30. The parts list is pretty much the same and the difficulty. Though if I were going to go through all the trouble, I'd yank out that turd in there and put an M50 or better in its place. Wouldnt cost you that much more.

This website is full of newbs and not a lot of correct info, but its a place to start if you're not already on it.

Thanks, the point of this car is gas mileage. My Landcruiser gets 13 on a good day and I am after better.

              I joined 318ti.org a few hours ago.

Im sure you can use several different flavors of transmissions too. I'd just lurk on that forum for a little bit and gather the info you need. I found that bf.c was a good spot for information on Ti's oddly enough.

There is a ton of great info there. Looks like this car is a no go. Guy thinks he is entitled to KBB fair $ (3k) he does not get that running properly is part of fair & that his car is poor (no value given)

                  We'll see what happens.
