need opinion on tires for my other car.

well i found a sick deal one some rays engineering rims for my spec v.

925 shipped in box with all the hardware for 4 18x8.5 57f rims.

i was gonna run a 235/40/18 tire on them and wanna know what is your experience with tires?

my uncle has always sworn by yokohamas, his overall favorite tire are the avs es100's, but he used to always run the z's.

i want a decent tire thats not gonna break the bank.

i looked into nitto and heard the neo gen is complete and utter crap.

and someone recommended the nexen n3000's for a decent cheap tire.

i dont want a cheap cheap tire, but i want bang for the buck.

    thanks! :D

not the best bang for the buck but you can do cool burn outs though.

I love these tire threads. People throw random ass shit out there without knowing what the guy wants to use the car for. And most of the time it's people who upgraded from some cheap ass wal-mart tires, so of course their new high performance tires will seem nice.

Just go to tire rack, find something with a tread wear rating that meets your needs, read the reviews to make sure other people are using them for the same purpose on similar cars with good results, and then pick out the cheapest one that meets your needs.

well i wanna do the random parking lot autocross and the "butt dyno" runs in the freeway off ramps, and mostly spirited driving.

i work in claremont, go to school in pomona, and live in west covina, so i dont do much commuting.

seems like people like the bf good rich alot...

any experience with the kdw's? some kid at the gym recommended them to me, but they are pretty pricey for the size i want...

You still didn't say what you want. Tires have compromises. Dry traction, wet traction, snow traction, treadwear, noise, etc... you can't have them all, and you need to prioritize.

BFG sports are on the low end of the high performance summer tire scale. They do great in dry and wet for the price, have good treadwear, and are quiet. They are in a different league then KDW's. KDW's are a much higher dry performance tire with much quicker wear, and non-existant snow traction.

                        Dry traction = most important
                        wet traction = semi important
                        snow traction = n/a
treadwear = eh at least a 280-300 would be nice
noise = doesnt matter, im used to howling z rated tires when my uncle had his little accord.

TOYO was always good to me for a "sporty" feel, as long as they arent more than 3/4 worn out--they get REALLY loud then. one of the cheaper tires here in germany.

YOKO to me has always felt like a plastic big wheel tire to me, no grip. esp. in the rain. but htis is just my experience here, not sure what other tirees are avail. in the U.S. cheap.

so yes on toyo? and no on yoko?

well i guess people really like bf goodrich, toyo proxies are not that bad, my friend ran them on his little civic hatch i think, dunno if they were the 4 or the t1r...

and i looked up the gt champiro's and the price sounds like a dream, but i do not know anything about them.

my rims are still being shipped so i got a while to figure this all out.

Well that doesn't really make any sense. They both have several different models. If you wanna compare dry grip between a non-street legal yoko slick to a toyo versado LX, then you won't be saying no to yoko. My point is each tire company has different models made for different proposes.

I've yet to come across a "bad" tire from the name brands... it's possible that it doesn't suit your needs, but it probably suits somebody else's needs perfectly.

If you are looking for us to give you the ultimate tire choice, it's not gonna happen. you can listen to a few random people on this board if you want, or you can go to tirerack.com and look at the surveys of a few thousand people, who rate how they do in each category, and pick out one that's in your price range that matches your need. Or, if that's too much work, call tirerack, discount tire direct, etc... and tell them what you're looking for and let them suggest something.

I've tried basically every "ultra high performance tire" that tirerack offers in the 205/45/16 size, and they are all the same. All lasted about 20k miles. No noticeable difference in grip. The next level up would be hankook rs2's, azenis rt-615's, etc... and then you are looking at a few thousand miles before they are shot. Mine lasted about 8k miles.
