2002 in American Gangster = glaring error

About an hour and 5 minutes into the movie Russell Crowe is on a stakeout. at this point of the movie it is 1970 based on a letter Crowe just read in the previous scene.

An inca 2002 pulls up with 5 MPH bumpers making it a 74 -76.

You'd think they would check on this stuff.

      Well if it's no newer than a 74, couldn't it pass as a 70?

During that movie I was scouring looking to see if there'd by any mess ups in the far background of 80's + cars but didnt detect any errors. Though they did it well.

                  Good eye Parkerblink

In 'El Cantante" (Marc Anthony and J.Lo's movie) for example there were many 80s and 90s cars and that story also took place in the 1970s. Tisk tisk.

In The Wedding Singer, there's a scene where there's a red 88' 325 in the parking lot (big tails, diving boards), and the movie takes place in '85. I doubt things like that are among the chief concerns, though.

How much research actually gets done? I'm assuming it depends on the budget and director but now a days I bet if they are trying to get old BMWs for movies, the prop guys probably figure as long as its Pre-Bangle its old enough.

Ya they know about Bangle but not to look at the registration to see what year a car is.
