Oh well 1 persons Jaded opinions
First off, ALS is very difficult to diagnose. Socondarily - what you are experiencing with your girlfriend is a financing issue not a quality of care issue. Unfortunate? Yes. Avoidable? Yes.

however, you made the right choice going to mayo. That's one tough condition.

Well I have K-P for amother few weeks, Got laid off. Then I go onto "Father-In-Law" care. That works for a few weeks til the new job pops up. It's great having your own Dr. on backup.

For practical purposes we have universal health care in the US. When I go to the emergency room of the public hospital there are no dead people on the sidewalk. What we don't have is universal health insurance or the same standard of care for everyone. The American people seem content with some people having less access to healthcare than others and that it will be substandard when they do get it?
Not only do the insurance companies dictate to the doctors, they also call the shots for the hospitals and drug companies. During the Clinton administration, Hillary's healthcare debacle left a huge power vacuum that formerly had been filled by doctors, hospitals, and drug companies. All they could agree on was that the consumer should have as little input as possible and they needed to keep the government out of it. In the meantime, insurance companies saw an opening and jumped on it. Instead of mindless government bureaucrats sitting behind a desk and calling the shots we have mindless insurance company claim processors sitting behind desks and calling the shots.
The free market and competition have had since the end of the second world war to come up with a solution to this mess. Any reasonable person is left with two choices. They are either incapable of doing it or simply don't want to. The insurance companies want healthcare to be as expensive as possible. The bigger the number after the dollar, the larger the commisions and the amount of money they have to invest, lobby, and wield power with.

Superior healthcare is available in the US - just not to uninsured folks.

Well with dad, a little bit of hard research, I had a good idea, The 1st test after a perlim exam at Mayo was a spinal tap, guess what. 1 test they came up with it. All the rest were just to confirm, no doc in Mi even mentioned it and had done ever other test know to man. He had very very good heath care coverage. so there is no funding issue there.

The G/F just gets the lose 20 lbs and all your problems will be solved. Well she is a Finn through and through, tall blond huge tits and a bone mass as big as mine. I will not get further into the problem but funding is not the issue here either, she has some of the best health coverage money can buy the docs just dont listen to her issues and tell her she is not being fourth coming about her diet, (she is a health Nut).

I dont know I guess I have just have had a bad run with these things, I am fortunate that I rarely am sick and dont need to use my health care often.

I do as of Jan 08 but preceding that 30min west of Ann Arbor, Mi city of 90,000+ and 2 very good Hospitals St joes and UofM. Thats where we would go to see all the specialists, never had any good. Dad could go anywhere thus the choice to go to Mayo, the G/F on the other hand, her HMO's only allowed SE MI and those are the best 2 choices.
