How do you take care of your family or self when it comes to health.

and the most dangerous hobby you do EG: dirtbiking, rock climb, raft, ect..

Im asking because im separating from the military and I wanted to get my feet wet on this topic.

get through work. it is getting more expensive though. not bad if you are single. if you have kids and a wife, get ready to bend over.
it costs me $56 a month for just me with pretty good coverage through blue cross/blue shield. add in long term/short term disability and dental and it puts me at $83 per month

Well, I'm in school still, so I'm covered through my mother's insurance. She makes me pay co-pay whenever I go, and I have to pay for the scripts I get, but that's nothing. I'm just thankful I'm covered.

I'm hoping to score a job with Boeing straight out of school, and they take care of their employees. That would be nice.

That's cool that you don't have to pay, but how does it feel to have inferior health care?

Generally people pay for it. I work at a hospital to I get top notch coverage for pretty cheap. Do you work? If not, united healthcare has a smaller company called golden rule that isn't bad in terms of price. Just get a low deductable plan or an HMO if you don't mind choosing a PCP. Since you're obviously worried the most about emergency room type situations - an HMO wouldn't be a terrible option.

And PS - I would rather pay cash than have canadian healthcare. the day this country has public healthcare i'm leaving.

im hoping the government will step up and take care of all my needs. i think private health care is over rated. we need more government and less choices.

my wife is in public education and has great benefits. the benefits at my job are also really good, so our family of three is covered twice over. i feel very fortunate to have the coverage we do.

US misconception. I lived overseas(military) for 12 years and going to the dentis in Japan only cost me around $40 to get a tooth pulled. Not an ounce of pain and seriousy didn't even know the tooth was out.

Now hearing a buddy of mine now (military) bithching about taking his kids to get a tooth pulled and paying $80(15% military deductible), its clear how overpriced things are here. This country could do it, but the where is the money and in it for the rich?
