Yeah Spain (perennial underachievers in the WC) look like they have what it takes. Theyve won the Euro Cup so it looks like they have overcome their tendency to choke in important tournaments. Itd be nice if they won.

IMO its really hard for me to picture a favorite right now,
Spain is the team of the hour, but with the exception of the last eurocopa they choke.
Argentina cannot be counted out, in 78 they had a bad qualifier but won the trophy.
Holland is waaay overdue, as long as they don't face Germany in the final match.
some of the big teams are going in without pressure, i just want to enjoy it.

On a more realistic note, either we will go down in flames worse than the 2002 WC, or....since there is no pressure on us to do good and no one thinks we will do well, we rock the house and get underestimated and go all the way. Being from Argentina, I vote the former. Were used to disappointment. But I want with all my heart to believe that Maradona did such a shitty job in qualifying on purpose and has it all figured out for the WC. But leaving it up to the 90th minute in the last game does NOT sound planned to me. FUck and we have so many great players!! How can we not be the shit!!Leave a comment:

Group of death is very uncertain this time. But that may be because so many teams now are not...uhh...... how can I put this "walk overs". Its not just Argentina, Brasil, Germany, Holland, Italia, England that can win it. Back in the day, those were the only teams you really had to worry about. Now the level of the playing field has been evened by everyone. The so-called "guranteed wins" are now teams that can give you problems and play really well. Past mediocre teams can give you a run for your money.... teams like Portugal, US, Mexico, Nigeria, Paraguay, Spain, Ghana, Ivory COast can beat you in a knockout stage because of how they have progressed in the last 15 years. Its an exciting time, but nothing is guaranteed anymore.
Having said that, I think if we make it to the next round, it will be VERY tough. We either have to face France, Mexico (which plays very well against us), or Uruguay (which also steps up their game but plays well against us due to history). But I see it like this, if we are to win the World Cup, we need to prove that we deserve it and beat good teams. So fuck it.Leave a comment:
