Let 18 be the legal drinking age. And for someone of that age to have a drivers license they must carry $5,000,000.00 car insurance bond (SR22). That way when they F up and kill someone the victims will be taken care of.

I wonder how long it will last. Not because of the dangers but because of the lost funding.Im now E30less.

Not to be an ass, but a life is not worth 5,000,000.
I do agree however that licenses in the states should be harder to get in the states. It was too fucking easy.Comment

Being from VT I am for it. However it needs to come with some stiff fines for DWI's. People that are 18 are going to get beer if they really want it bad enough.
I personally enjoy living in Vermont, and being able to just walk into the state house to have conversations with the house of reps. We will see what happens. Most people that are 18 and want to drink go to Canada for a few pops anyhoo.
As long as people are safe - let it happen. If people are not lock em up til the chair frees up.'89 "is" = M technic II build mode.

You can drink at 18 here and drive at 15 ( by yourself at 15 and a half )
Most teenagers are alright, the only boose heads are a fucktards that would be drinking it anyway if the drinking age was higher. I think 21 is way too old, in some European countries it's 16 for beer and 18 for the harder stuff which makes sense.
I think 18 is an alright age considering you can join the army at 18 and drive at 15. As i said, most teenages are fine drinking because they arent idiots, but there are always a few which drink too much which make people want to increase the drinking age, but im pretty sure that wouldnt fix anything.Comment

lol @ blunt, maybe there should be options? say get a "drinking license" and not be allowed to receive a drivers license until a certain age requirment is met...sounds stupid but hell....cheaper than 5 mil insuranceComment

I've got mixed feelings about this. When I was in high school, my best friend's dad had a policy that we were allowed to consume alcohol under his supervision and in moderate amounts. He thought that if it were given to people at a younger age, then they would learn to be more responsible with it rather than going crazy with it when they finally get legal.
On the other had, we started drinking heavily outside of his supervision and I ended up doing some stupid stuff. 5 years later, I know that I am an alcoholic and I simply can't drink alcohol. At all. Never ends well for me.

Am I the only one that believes that underage drinking (hell, teen drinking in general) will go DOWN if they bring the drinking age to 18?
Half the retards in high school drink because "it's cool". Make it legal and its suddenly boring now.Erick Mahle | FullOpp Drift | YouTube

+1 its so true. Its not just drinking its drinking in excess. Kids get fucked up because its cool and all their friends are doing it.
Oh and do you know how many high school kids already drink? That whole thing with making it legal to buy it = more kids will do it is bull shit. The kids that want to drink already do!!!!!-ChrisComment

I'm all for driving restrictions being as tight as they are in Germany... a monkey can get a drivers license in the US.
A person can vote, fight and die in war, but can't have a beer? Please....
That whole thing seems spot on to me. Driving at 16 doesn't bother me, but there should be more mandatory education.
Drinking at 18 only seems reasonable. You think these people are informed enough to vote at 18? Fuck no. I wasn't, but maybe that's because I'm informed now.. but you'll entrust them with the ability to have an impact on the nations future? That's insane. Furthermore, these same people can enlist an die. They should certainly be able to have a beer.
This is the same thing as this nations stance on sex... they teach "abstinence" but we all know that is crock of shit (in general). Let people drink, dissolve the mystique of it, and generally educate people to do it properly.
the people who I have seen develop alcohol problems that seriously impact their lives are the ones who never drank in HS, and then went to college and went off-the-reservation nuts with drinking once they were out of the house. they started fucking up when shit actually mattered...
Meanwhile, I drank in HS (at an early age, which I have no regrets about) and stopped partying at 21 and changed (at least partying on a regular basis). why? because after doing it for 8 years it looses it's luster.
That's just a personal experience.... but to say someone can vote, and die for their country, but NOT drink is just rediculous....PNW Crew

even if were to pass it would never stand for long. The fed government will threten to cut off the Highway funding unless its repealed. Just like they did with the .08 legal limit any state that did not comply would lose its highway funding, this is also the same reason Montana lost the no speed limit deal.
edit: I do agree old enough to be drafted old enough to have a beer. It may lead to issues but actual raising of the kids and teaching them right from wrong may take care of thatLast edited by mrsleeve; 02-29-2008, 11:48 PM.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
