4GB of ram is really nice for common use of everyday apps. As Vista eats about 1GB upon start up...
Right now I have 2GB of ram on a Intel Core2Duo setup with an x1950. :p

Though durring summer after AMD revises their QUAD-CORES, i will then buy that setup with 4GBs of ram.

oh btw Mac&Trash is pretty basic, I'm not down with a "single click mouse,"
but I hear they're super user friendly in media editing.

Yes, I know what it is. I was talking about the fact that he called is a flash disk. It's not a disk.

But who cares now? And I've been lusting after solid state for a while now. I guess I'll wait until the price comes down.

No one cares. That's not what this thread is about.

Why would you bother getting a quad core when it isn't supported by the OS? I'm not saying your computer wont run but it will NOT be supported and you will have bought more power that is just going to waste!

Macs are nice, if you don't understand how to work a PC. Best thing about macs is that they are Intel now and can have windows put on instead!

About the bios, see if taking out the little CMOS battery will reset the bios. If that doesn't work then there are other things you could probably try, pm me if your friend doesnt know what that is.

P.S. That iRam sounds pretty cool havent heard of it but I will be asking about it! This PCI card keeps power to it so that the things in the RAM arent lost?

I guess your not aware that there are LINUXs distribution out there that support muti-threaded operations for the CPU. Also games such as Unreal Tournament III take advantage of quad-cores and any other non-single core cpus.

OH and for the record RAM does not make your computer "faster" it just lets the computer preform how it should.

4gb... Waste of money. A 32bit operationg system cannot recognize over 3.5gb (if your lucky) usually 3gb. The best bang for buck is to get a 2gb stick and run 3gb with vista:D

There are 64-bit versions of WINxp and WINvista.

And then if/when I swap to the 64bit version, I have to go buy more. My system recognizes 4gb, it was cheap, so I bought 4gb.

Yeah but 64-bit is not mainstream yet.

Good thinking considering how cheap Ram is these days. Your system recognizes the 4gb? You must have the Vista SP1, if you have Vista.

                        SO what are you, mainstream?
I often use a computer I built in '05 that's 64bit compatible, its an AMD.
It really boils down to far you want to restrict yourself down the line in upgrading.

Even if Windows recognizes it in XP, the operating system wont do much with it. The dude speaks the truth. 4 gig in 32 bit XP is a waste of money and RAM unless you've completely altered your page file settings.

Vista needs 4 gig to operate appropriately. Whoever says it uses a gig to startup, is not true.

The rule of thumb is whatever Windows recommends, double that and you are at recommended running speed and size.

Wow... Take a trip to any electronic store. Count how many computers you see with a 64-bit operating system. I would think Mainstream is what people can purchase at say Best Buy. I said 64-bit is not mainstream because it is not widely used by the general public...
