I've got a pair of these and they're amazing. I'd stay away from some of the lower shure models because I hear they really lack bass response. If you're going to drop the dough, I wouldn't buy single driver earphones. Just my $.02.

I liked my skullcandy buds, for about a month. Long story short, they broke, I was pissed. The motherfuckers were like 35 bones and lasted a month with regular, non-abusive use. I will now buy something with a higher build quality.

I'm very happy with my Sure e3c.

I mainly used them as in ear monitors, but since I don't really plan on stage anymore I've been using them with my iPod. They're very neutral, so the don't have booming bass, but they're very accurate.

I bought those for my brother for Xmas. He travels all the time and swears these are the best he's ever heard.

I bought the Shure SCL2s and I couldn't be happier. They are incredible.

i have shure and skull candy etymotics. They're great for the gym (you can all stop laughing, yes I've been going to the gym). They are comfortable if you sort through all the different kinds of buds to find one that suits you.The problem with ear canal phones is that you will get run over if you listen to them outside. They seal out ALL ambient noise, so if you wear them outside, don't expect to hear the honk of the out of control car ready to jump the curb on you.

Oh yeah, mp3's suck -- ask luke. Once you get a less lossy digital format, invest in a headphone amplifier. Even a diy solid state one like the cmoy will help your music.

Every review I've read of the Shure earbuds is glowing with praise. The only caution I have are the sony in-the-ear buds with the swappable sized rubber cones-- I have bought two sets of these and both have failed within a year. Granted, they cost ~$30-40 bucks, but it's still annoying to be out that kind of money. I'd personally save up and buy the Shure ones if I had to do it again, but for now I just do without.

skullcandy has a lifetime warranty on all their headphones, no receipt needed, check out their site for more info. i like mine but they do totally eliminate outside noise, which can be a bit harrowing walking around town or snowboarding in a crowded terrain park. they do have an in line volume control though.
