Word. I saw Tower of Power live last year and it was nothing short of KICK-ASS. I definitely reccomend going if you ever get a chance and your a funk fan.

As far as rap goes, I'm fond of jurassic 5, mos def, immortal technique, and some older nas.

Haha, I'm 19 to be honest with you. It was definitely an older crowd at Tower of Power.

i'm surprised by a lot of the replys to this thread, in a good way. I agree with most of them. Hip Hop is infact dead, dying, or going in a horrible direction, not unlike American society,(see Idocracy, stupid movie, but good point) I am glad to see so many here into the old school good hip hop ie. hyroglyphics, dell, etc. Especially coming from Luke. You are way too old to be dropping such names! J/K I love it. Someone give me some good hip hop i can listen to that is not total mainstream and lame.

OK, so on that note (dropped the bomb, yO!)...

I was sitting in the break room at Home Depot, where I worked (for about 6 weeks, the LIARS!) and these 2 guys, about 20, maybe 22, were talking about "Pimp Of The Mothafuckin' Year" and I popped off with "goin' around doin' shit like this here" in a Dru Down voice...the guys were like completely shocked, like totally freaked.

I said "I can't believe you guys know Dru Down"...they said "We can't believe YOU know Dru Down!" I said "oh yeah, I forgot, I am the old fucker here"

                So, yeah, it was legendary.

                Luke

I just spent some time going through some of my old Goddie Mob music. Try to find something better than the Soul Food Album. There's just something about that mid 90's Atlanta sound. Look up the song "Cell Therapy" for instance.

Music evolves. Good musicians never write the same shit over and over again. They write new stuff that is different from the others. Then the others copy it. Outkast and Ceelo have been writing/ producing like that for years. If you don't like it, it may be time for you to evolve as well. The same thing you said about Goodie mob can be said about southernplayalisticcadillacmusic, but most of their stuff is good, it just changed along the way as they grew up and out of a specific style.
Atlanta has always been there with it's own style, from raw hip hop such as TI and LIL John, to experimental stuff like Outkast, Ceelo, and Luda. If you follow Ludachris, he is taking the same path and turning his "hip hop" into more creative music. The beastie boys did it as well as run dmc, it was just a different time with less to work with.
                                Outkast isn't hip hop btw.
