ive sold a couple to my scrap guy. e30 factory cats are running 100 dollars, im sure he is getting 200 cuz, hes too happy to give me a 100 dollar bill.

$100 is way too cheap for factory E30 cats right now- you need to be getting at least twice that.

Yea, at my work the E30 cats fetch a premium. We get anywhere between 225-275 depending on platinum/gold/silver/whatever is going for. I know platinum is up to like 2200 an ounce, I believe.

find a place locally that buys automotive cores- or specializes in buying cats, it's NOT usually the scrap metal place- but sometimes it is.


OR, you can sell them on Ebay, just be careful when you type up the description- study ended auctions to see how they word them, Ebay will end the auction if you mention the type of car the cat came from. For BMW's, all you need are a couple of good pics, and a good description- make sure to check to see if the guts of the cat are broken or rattling around, complete intact honeycombs (the guts of the cat) bring the most $$$.



The OP and some others have been posting around lots of the BMW forums offering to buy used cats, claiming to pay top dollar- but I've asked them what they would pay for some cats I sold recently and they offered 25-40% less than what I got for them locally.

Where have you been hiding?? ;) It's been a topic of discussion here and on alot of other boards for a while now.

The OEM E30 cats have been worth at least $100 for a couple of years now, the price of cats is roughly tied to the price of Platinum + Palladium- which has been way up for a while now.



Don't feel bad, I've talked to lots of people who did the same thing, or cut out the cat to make a track exhaust and threw it in a dumpster!!

Muffler shops love people like that- "Oh yes sir, that price even includes disposal of the old catalytic converter", like they're doing you a favor!!

yes they are. its the weapons grade plutonium thats inside that everyone is after.
