    you can't be serious. Bush isn't exactly republican anymore, Obama is a racist, communist goofball who wears his ass like a hat, and Hilary is a fascist dictator in the making.

      Hillary is just a puppet for the industry behind her. Obama is the guy with a different ideology. But hey, what do I know, I can't be voting anyway.

      BTW saw on the news that many republicans will vote for Obama, while I doubt any democrat will vote for McCains, who, I think, used to be a democrat and turned its vest lately.

          You already got to that one.
          Do people really vote parties still?? There's no such thing as a Republican anymore.

            In Just 16 Months...

            This post comes in three (3) parts:
            Part 1
            In just 16 months.. Remember the election in 2006?
            Thought you might like to read the following:
            A little over 16 MONTHS ago:

            1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
            2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
            3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

            Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

            1) Consumer confidence plummet;
            2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;
            3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
            4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
            5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
            6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

            America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

            Remember it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

            Quote of the Day........"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." -- Barack Obama

            Part 2:
            Taxes...Whether leaning to Democrat or Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.

            Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008
            Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500
            Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500
            Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750
            Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000
            Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750
            Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

            Both Democrat candidates will return to the higher tax rates
            It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

              And you you really think Congress has control over the price of oil? Or control over consumer confidence? I must have been asleep, did they pass a law to raise the unemployment?

              You obviously have no idea how the economy works. Shut up and go spread your BS somewhere else.

              Besides, most of this is caused by the subprime mortgage 'crisis', which started well before 2006.

              Ya, if you strait add those numbers. But many of them are redundant and cover the same expenditures over and over again. You can't tally school spending for illegal immigrants 4 times and call it the real value.

                Explain to me how any of that makes sense. Bush is still a hawkish, tax-cutting conservative Republican. He still stands for everything the conservative party does (except for fiscal conservatism)

                Obama is probably the farthest thing from a racist this country has ever seen in a presidential cantidate. Did you totally miss his speech 6 weeks ago in response to the Rev. Wright comments? The only racists are the ones who don't like him because he's black.

                Everyone says this about Hilary, but they never seem to have any evidence to back them up. Most of them are just sexist and feel threathened by a powerful woman. I dare you to show some real evidence that Hilary is a secretly "Adolf Franco Mussolini the 2nd"

                    You are right in your previous post that congress has little control over the economy, however they do have more than Bush did. Most people blame Bush while your state rep had as much or more to do with it.

                    Bush cashed in his republican card with the USAPATRIOT Act, along with No Child Left Behind. Increasing government power isnt very conservative.

                    Obama is a racist. I listened to that whole speech and lost a LOST of repsect for him He compared his grandma's private concerns over being around large black men to a preacher, speaking to an audience, referring to the whites as terrorists askin to Al Qaeda. Private fears and spewing hate are two completely different things and the fact that he would try and put this on her speaks volumes to the amount of bullshit he will spew.

                    I was a fan of his before that. I thought, while lacking any real vision or plan, he at least would make the race entertaining and inject a little of honesty. Instead he showed me that he is as fake as the woman he is running against.

                    Nobody because its unpopular and goes against the will of SIGs. These people are really just actors, nobody gets to that level and actually wants to do anything for the good of the people they represent anymore, there is nothing in it for those kinds of people.

                      Really now? Obama thinks that black people are picked on because they are black.
                      Now, OSU is a very good engineering school, but I bet you could have gotten into a much better university being black, with your same credentials.

                      How is that for fair? Sounds like black people already get special priveleges.

                        Obama has said several times that he's not in favor of affirmative action. I'm not in favor of it either. But I'm not going to bitch and complain about it; I should be using my intelligence to get in to the school I want, not bitching about someone else. I got in to a very good private engineering school but opted for OSU instead because it was more affordable. Besides, those affirmative action laws apply to ALL MINORITIES, not just blacks.

                        And yes, some black people are picked on because their black because their are still some racists in America. Are all white people racist? no. Are all black people picked on? no. But I don't think Obama is saying that it's all 'whiteys fault'.

                          Right. Because I personally know you, I can say that you are not the type to leech off of the "system".

                          Most people are different.
                          If something is given to someone, they will take it. Why work for something that will be given to you anyway?

                            Is there something wrong with that though? If you were given something for free, wouldn't you take it? I don't like affirmative action, but I certainly can't fault a minority student for taking advantage of an opportunity to go to school. Let's face it, many minority communities desperately need educated people. Education is the best tool for reducing traditional minority grievances. I still don't think they deserve special treatment, but I can't fault a minority student for getting an education through the means provided to them.

                              Growing up poor, I know first hand the nature of problems plagued by the poor. It was these experiences that led me to develop my current position as a conservative. The liberal solutions to these problems often involved hand-outs, lots of money, and rarely ever 'worked' (depending on what your definition of 'worked' is). My definition of 'worked' would be the ability to be self-sufficient within 1 year of assistance. The sad truth is that many of these people have the mentality of 'if it's free, why not take it?'.

                              In many situations, I'm the same way. If someone's gonna give me a free E30 or a free sandwich, I'll take it. However, I do believe there's a line there somewhere that most people don't recognize. I've qualified for welfare and food stamps a few times in my life, and not once did I take it. I felt that I didn't truly work hard enough to improve my situation, and it was the truth. Unfortunately, I was the only one I knew who qualified and didn't take it. Was it stupid of me? I don't think so. I stuck to my principles. My business is now doing well and most of those people are still living off government assistance.

                              Many of the people I grew up with and their families had many, many opportunities to better their situation. Only a couple took advantage of the benefits and used them to get themselves out of the hole they were in. I know it's not politically correct to say most people in poverty are lazy, but that's the plain truth based on my experiences. I am 100% for helping the single mom with two jobs. I am unwilling to help the single mom with no job, unless she's willing to work. The fact is, we should have enough checks on the system that we can institute a policy that says 'if you don't work, you don't eat' for those able to work.

                              Many people (including Obama recently) have said that it all starts with a job, and I agree with that 100%. One of the problems I have with liberals when it comes to jobs is all the jobs they want have to be 'living wage' jobs ($11.67 for a single person in Oregon). If they're not paying living wage jobs, they're bad employers. Isn't any job better than no job? $11.67 per hour? Assuming 20% tax, that's $19418.88/yr. or $1618.24/mo. for a single person! That sounds like a pretty good job to me! A minimum wage job in Oregon pays $7.95/hr. which, again assuming 20% tax, is $13,228.80/yr. or $1102.40/mo. Even without public assistance, it's not difficult to find a two bedroom apartment in Portland for $550-$600/mo. with most utilities paid. You're not going to be living in the Pearl District, but you're not going to be dodging bullets either (I've lived in a couple of these places). Figure in $100/mo. for misc. utilities and you have $402 left over. Buy your bus pass and enjoy your $300+ in food and whatever else you need to survive, cause that's more than I had to live on after bills for quite some time. Every full-time job in Oregon is a living wage job, so long as people exercise personal responsibility and discipline when it comes to managing their money. Also required is an actual desire to better your situation instead of be lazy and complain about it. I know many who work minimum wage jobs, work, come home, and play Xbox, all while the liberals are fighting for them to improve their situation. Why?! They're perfectly capable of landing a better job, but refuse to do so unless it's placed in front of them on a silver platter. Hard work and discipline are now and always have been the path to the American dream.

                              It all comes down to one statement, and this is why, overall, the liberal philosophy on poverty issues is fundamentally flawed:

                              "You can't help those unwilling to help themselves."

                                Mr. Link, I read your essay there and I am quite touched! I agree with you 100%!

                                It's like the story that I'm sure many of you have heard, where a girls father explains to her that if she's a liberal, she'd give split apart all her A grades and make them B's so that other people with C's can have B's too. (hopefully that made sense).

                                I've known a family that had to live on the government for sometime, and they went thru some rough times. But, it worked for him, he's back on his feet and kickin again, providing for his family! It's because he WANTED to succeed and he WANTED to provide for himself and his family.

                                A good number of people in this country spend their entire lives freeloading, and believe their deserve it.

                                You said it very very well! Thank you!
