    Web Hosting

Who provides good webhosting? Anyone have any experiences? I'm researching by reading reviews and the biggest names I came across are Bluehost, HostingPad and Yahoo. Great reviews by the websites reviewing them, but the consumer reviews are either 5 stars or 1 star, all across the board.

Doesn't really inspire confidence to sign up with any of them really.

    Anyone got any good suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Erick

I use LunarPages.com. Plenty of bandwidth, tons of storage, good server side options and pretty cheap.

Fuck GoDaddy, dreamhost is horrible unprofessional (they overbilled people to the tune of over a million dollars and their 'apology' was filled with simpsons pictures and shit.)

i like www.made2own.com and my friend seems to like hostingpad for what he gets.

I work for a web hosting company and our major competitors are once that y'all have mentioned. The company I work for is InMotion Hosting , Inc. http://inmotionhosting.com. I can give anyone in R3V deals like family/friends deals/discounts if y'all are interested.

My best advice when searching for any company whether it is a web hosting company or what not is to type in these keywords "(company name) SUCKS"; by doing so, it will generate plenty of negative feedbacks pertaining to such company. I would select the company that has the least negative feedback.

With that in mind, I advice you to compare us with all the web hosting companies that y'all found, is currently hosting with, or is looking to host with in the near future. I can guarantee you that we will win because for a lack of a better explanation, we run our company more like geeks than entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs will try to make the money as fast as possible by attracting potential customers using some marketing schemes or perks to a web hosting company in order to make that money now and then they will learn how to deal with the problems as they come in. Well, with geeks like us, we deal with the problems from the get go, and then the money will just come in that is why since our inception in 2001, we called to confirm every single order that was purchased from our web site before we allowed them in our servers. Unlike all other web hosting companies except BlueHost who is now trying to follow our security measures, they automatically accept anyone that can purchase an account from their web site in their servers. What that means is that a hacker, adult site, and resource abuser can purchase an account and enter the same server, so I question those web hosting companies with how can they guarantee security and that they don't ever oversell their servers if there are no "homeland security" doing their jobs from the get go before allowing someone in the server community... that's just asking for trouble, so we'd rather deal with these problems from the get go by calling to confirm every single order and assuring that there are no hackers, adult sites, and resource abusers in our server which allows us to carry a clean and good neighborhood server environment.

So when you search and compare us with all the other web hosting companies and wonder why they have a lot of negative feedbacks, well, that is probably because they are entrepreneurs running the company, making the money as fast as possible, and they learn how to deal with the problems as they come in. You will find other web hosting companies that may not have negative feedbacks yet, well, that is probably because they just started their company and none has bothered to blog or critique about them yet. Make sure you do a lot of research. When you do your research, your main concern should be how robust and reliable is the actual machine/server/computer that will host your site rather than the package specifications or perks to a web hosting account.

Another reason why you should consider InMotion Hosting http://inmotionhosting.com is because we are a US based company, so when you call our technical department, not only will you get someone very knowledgeable and fairly quickly, but they also speak American English while the only accent you may hear is probably some southern accent because they are located in Virginia Beach, VA and some of them grew up in the Carolinas. Our technical support is open 24/7.

I am not saying this because I work for InMotion Hosting, but our company is #1 in web hosting today, hands down (do some research). One of the main reasons why is because we have full control over our growth; we're not growing way too fast nor are we growing way too slow like the other web hosting companies who have tons of problems with technical supports that takes forever to get to because your on hold forever and once you get them, 2 questions turns into 2 hour conversations or what not... = headaches.

Got questions? Hit me up, just identify yourself from R3V and your screenname or what not and I'll make sure to take care of y'all

DreamHost is cool, but their servers SUCK. It's slow as shit and they go down all the time. I like the company and what they stand behind, but they really need to put some more money into their servers. My girlfriend uses them for about 10 of her domains and she's looking to move elsewhere soon. They use the traditional discrete-hosting model where you pack XXXX number of clients on a single server. If that server goes down, all XXXX of those domains are down too. This is not preferable.

I previously worked for a company called Affinity Internet (now owned by HostWay Corporation). They are 2 fairly sizable webhosts with some of the best technologies I've seen in the industry. They use a clustered system for hosting (your domain is hosted across 20+ webservers and 20+ mailservers). VERY fast and VERY reliable. Affinity is a nameholding company for their actual hosting brands. The best one IMO is http://www.gate.com. They offer a very good service at a very good price. It isn't some small mom&pop shop or a "cheap" operation. This is a multi-million dollar per quarter company. They've invested in some very good hardware and some very good technology.

I personally use 1and1, they're very professional and run reliable servers in HUGE datacenters. I've had 0 downtime and great service with them, and would go with them again if I wasn't running my own server now.

I worked for a web 2.0 book rental company (seriously) last summer, and they initially used Dreamhost to host their 6-year old e-commerce code. I, having been given the duty of "make our websight suparfast and shiney and web 2.oh!!!!11uno", had tons of problems with Dreamhost and their support. Friends of mine in internet businesses have also had bad experiences with Dreamhost's unprofessional behavior.

Dreamhost is cheap and has huge plans, but use at your own risk.

by the way, if you guys ever wonder who the big web hosting players are, please do a whois lookup. To do a whois lookup, go to http://domaintools.com and you will get information of who the ICANN registrar is and where the IP points to (if the IP points to their business name, then they own their data center which means they own their servers and they are not resellers). For instance, made2own.com whois lookup link, http://whois.domaintools.com/made2own.com; if you notice that their IP routes to ThePlanet.com which is one of our major competitors who also sucks, but I'll let you guys decide on that; made2own is basically a reseller of ThePlanet.com who also gave us a call, but was not allowed in our servers because of how they do business plus they are not members of the BBB which sounds funny because if you're not a member of the BBB, then you are afraid of situations that you know is coming your way and don't want to get negative feedbacks about it, kna mean? just wait until made2own fills up their servers and starts getting problems, you'll see.

ya'll mentioned GoDaddy? their ICANN registrars not a web hosting company; go figure

DreamHost? do a google search for DreamHost sucks and go figure
startlogic? do a google search for startlogic sucks and go figure
LunarPages? I think they are no longer a reseller, but do a google search for LunarPages sucks and go figure.
Affinity Internet was GOOD until they sold it to HostWay; do a google search for hostway sucks and go figure
Gate.com? I heard they were doing good until I did more research in google with the keywords "gate web hosting sucks" and go figure

1and1.com is probably the only web hosting company that I think can compete with us, but they have some servers that are not working well, so just beware of which server they place you on. Many of their servers built before 2007 ran very well until recently. If you do a google search, you will know what I mean. 1and1.com would probably be a web hosting company I would recommend other than us, InMotion Hosting , Inc. http://inmotionhosting.com

For more information on the type of hardware setup we have, please go to http://inmotionhosting.com/reliability.html ; We're talking about commercial grade servers running; 16GB of RAM, multiple Dual Quad Xeon Processors, 1gigbit NIC cards, 15K SAS drives, RAID 5 for data redundancy, and much more.
