what's out there that fits E30s? I'd prefer a roof rack - using it for a couple road bikes, if I can use it for skiis that'd be a bonus as well.

I imagine Yakama or Thule has something in their inventory that is either e30 specific, or generic enough to fit.Originally posted by TeaguerFilling an Eta's tank with super unleaded will reach the cars maximum attainable performance level .
Aa a bonus filling the tank will also double any Eta's resale value . -

I have a Thule with a summit box on it and a bike rack( the jaw or something like that) you dont have to remove the wheels or anything. In the summer i take the box off and put the other bike rack on, as i use it more in the summer.sigpicComment

I have a Saris rack, with wind deflector, holds two mtb bikes-
typically if you're looking for something light, and custom fit you'll end up paying bigger money for something like a Thule, Yakima or Saris-
Otherwise, I'm sure theres generic racks out there, which aren't made to measure, but can certainly meet you needs.Comment

A Thule or Yakima rack with gutter feet is what you need. Its a generic foot and should be fairly cheap. Definitely stick with those two brands. Almost the same in price, pretty close as far as quality goes. Check out the bike attachments and see which company's you like more. Go for a fork mount if you plan on doing any 'spirited' driving with the bike on the roof.'91 318is

I was actually wondering the same thing the other day. I just picked up a bike off craigslist and it's something I'm looking to get into. How do the roof racks attach to the car?

I've got a Thule one, works nicely. Hate driving with it though, way too much wind noise.Comment

I have used a Yakima Q-tower set-up and was really happy with it. While I'm biased towards Yakima, either that or Thule is a great way to go. As far as trustworthy bike racks are concerned, they really aren't more expensive. It just starts to add up when you buy attachments for all of your hobbies! Then again, the flexibility and adaptability is why I use that system rather than a bike-specific rack.
Oh, did I mention I have a set of Q-towers, appropriate E30 clips, and crossbars for sale? Crap...that was a shameless plug...I hate when I slip up like that.Comment

So... Today is the day I buy a friggen roof rack. I need one badly because anytime I need something custom done to one of my bikes I have to completely tear it down and put it in the trunk or back seat. Not ideal at all.
So on Bavauto, I see the Thule Basic Roof Rack system with the side clips and rails and what not. Its 179$
Then I see the Vise Fork bike racks. Its 109$. So is 300 dollars proper to spend on a decent roof rack system? Seems like a lot but then again I know nothing about this.
Anything else out there that is cheaper and equivalent?
Links? I'm thinking like 200 dollar max to get my bike secured on top of my car.Comment
