    Bluntie-poo, congrats on 27.

Any of the rest of you who think it might be tough to get sober, here is the #1 truth: It is easier to stay sober than it is to get sober.

So, no matter if you have 1 day or 1 hour, keep it going. It does get easier.

dude its every bit as much as an accomplishment. as corny as it sounds 1 day or 30 years sobriety... doesnt matter. we could all go get high this afternoon .. i actually think 1 year is way more of an accomplishment than 27. after a while it just gets easier.
and thank you. my mom always told me to strive to be #1 at whatever i do. not sure this is what she meant but im a little proud inside after reading your post

Thanks blunt, for sharing, and Congratulations on 27 years sober. I to have a similar story, but my time on this side of the line is nowhere near yours.

Too bad us humans don't take well to others advise. It's unfortunate but those who have been deep inside and made it out will agree that no one can try to reach in and pull someone out, only when one decides it HAS to change will anything happen.

And, again, thanks blunt, your a great poster boy for sober living. I would trade drug abuse for an unlimited volume of espresso and hawt BMW's.

I was the same way. I may still be a little bit, but I feel that I've grown up a lot in a short amount of time recently. I had advice from my elders, and I simply didn't listen. I would tell myself that I should just drink a little bit and be social, but any time I drank hard alcohol, I ended up blacked out and waking up in the morning not knowing what I had for most of the night. I was arrested at 17 for driving under the influence. It cost me so much money and disappointed my mother so much that I told myself that I wouldn't be drinking any more. It lasted about a month, and then I was back at it again. I didn't drink and drive any more (haven't since), so I thought I would be fine drinking if I wasn't going to harm anyone else.

Fast forward four years, I got loaded one night at the bar, and my friends had left so I didn't have a ride. I elected to sleep in my truck thinking it was the smart thing to do, and I was found by a cop and arrested for "physical control". While this wasn't nearly as bad as the incident I had in high school, it made it apparent that I could not act like a responsible adult if I am that drunk. Once again, the financial loss is pretty bad and my family is thinking I'm a spitting image of my dad. This time, I have actually listened to the older people that tell my I am the type of person that just plain shouldn't be drinking. I haven't drank since that night.

I know this is a bit emo of me, but like Stevie30 said, there is a chance some kid might read this and think a bit differently. Having said that, I have to agree with Steve (blunt); most of the people that are like Steve and I are just too stubborn to listen to other people and it'll probably take a bad experience to change someone's way of thinking.
