    Wait...seriously? More RIAA craziness.

The RIAA is trying to sue AM and FM radio for being a form of piracy. I personally think it's absolutely insane. They went through the same nonsense in the 1930s, but here we are again.

Compare with http://www.theonion.com/content/news...o_stations_for - pretty similar, no? And that's The Onion, a joke news source.

WGAF. I don't listen to the radio. Just my ipod and burned CDs.

In European countries, whenever a song is played on TV or radio, it goes on a list. Every time it plays, it goes on that list. Then the list is reviewed and the radio/TV station pays fees fore each of the song, and that money is used to pay royaltees.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Here in the US we just have copyright lawyers waiting around to file suits against anyone who uses said intellectual property.

That is ridiculous. Like that article says, the radio broadcasts are a way of promoting their music.

However, they do have an argument that the satellite radio broadcasts could promote piracy. If you hear a song on a satellite radio station, you can rewind it to the beginning, hit record and save it on a hard disk. I can see how this could be considered piracy, but regardless the recording industry is fighting a losing battle. It sucks for them that peer to peer shit has killed their revenue, but going after radio broadcasts is pretty lame.

There is a rapper called 'Lil Wayne that even says, "If you paid for this CD you are stupid" or something to that effect on one of his albums.

With out looking into it, that is how I thought it worked here?

The record industry is just really hurting because of the new media outlets.

Thats okay, last week they were trying to convince the judge that you don't need evidence to convict pirates.

No they are hurting because they continue to churn out crappy artists with crappy music.

I still go buy CD's of the bands I like to support them.

Thats true, I would pay $100+ per seat to see a good band live. But todays bands are all studio. Smashing Pumpkins, great example of a studio band.

I was so disappointed to see them live I left.

^ True, although the two most recent bands I saw were stellar live. And one is fairly recent, and I never thought of their music as something that could possibly have so much crowd reaction. It was quite possibly one of the best crowd reactions I've seen in years.

no, you are not correct. rush will have to pay 94% of his profits to Chrissie Hynde of the The Pretenders for his appropriation of the "My City Was Gone" riff.

The artists should pay the radio stations to play their music.

This is just a case of "we aren't making enough millions of dollars".
