No, actually I'm just shooting the shit but from my side of things.. I actually feel religion has no place High School at all but for my own reasons.. Same reasons the Adults would probably want it there. It wouldn't work to well in my opinion. I have to represent my state and faith somewhat. Actually my faith requires no defense; Texas on the other hand may very well require a small meteor...

If you can take a step back and view any religious text simply as a piece of literature, I have no problem at all with public schools allowing them in for students to examine the important themes they contribute. In fact, college profs, particularly english profs, complain that too many students have virtually no knowledge of any of the major religious texts.Comment

The problem is any texas religion class will be biased. If there was a world religion class that compared central ideas and themes of all religions (including atheism) I'd be a thrilled supporter. I don't think people should be born into religion. Pushing beliefs onto children is unfair. Take the kids in that central texas compound for example. They have no options and no way to even educate themselves.If you can take a step back and view any religious text simply as a piece of literature, I have no problem at all with public schools allowing them in for students to examine the important themes they contribute. You have to think of the entire picture...not simply the fact that they are bringing religion to school. I have studied MANY religions and MANY beliefs and disbeliefs. To make this short and simple : religion is in place to give people a higher reason to live. Without that many (you know who you are) would cause a havoc because the only higher power is that of man. In essence, religion is there for your own good. Whether or not you believe in Christianity is something completely different. Teaching religion instills existence and reason for existence within young.Comment

Come on man. The most ridiculous things hapen in texas due to the amount of fundies here. Wives getting run over, families getting murdered my crazy moms, strange religious compounds. This is the reddest state there is - if something outrageous and religion oriented happens it's probably in texas. Let's face it, this state isn't full of free thinkers.

I hear ya. I've been stuck in the buckle of the bible belt for 25 years.
The city I live in is an oasis of culture and diversity in a barren wasteland of religion. When I moved here, stores were prohibited from opening on Sundays. Now you can buy anything you want on Sunday - including adult beverages.

Christianity = Morals
as it's explained in crusades, inquisitions, genocides, and who knows what else your morals may possess you to do.
Since when religion became the voice of reason? Was it when church used science to prove God, and when science became it's own theology they crucified it for my sins? Was it when church admitted the Earth was round and revolved around the sun in 1980's? Burning people for witchcraft?
With out religion, we can still have laws, morals, ethics, and so forth. Apparently, without religion, you spiritual folks would go ape-shit.
Not insulting religions, believe what you want, but Speedhops statement was retarded.Comment

Butthurt much? Wasn't trying to offend anyone, I just don't see how anyone can take the bible as any more than a fable that illustrates a good way to live. When its used as that, I think its great. But when its turned into this giant belief structure trying to control my thoughts and feelings by some mythical guy in the sky, well I don't agree with it.
But if it helps people get through the day, then great! But there is alot of bad shit that also gets carried out in the name of religion.
So fuck you for telling me to fuck myself!
