    BMW engine swap into boats?

hey, ive just had this idea in my head for a while of putting a bmw engine in a boat. i have a 20 powerboat all redone vynal and interior but the 4cyl inboard engine just doesnt give it enough push.

It doesnt look hard play around with it and i think an m30 would give nice torque/power and dont cost too much.

im curious to see if anyone has done something like this on here

There was a version of the m21 (324td/524td) diesel engine that was used in marine applications. One was up on ebay a few months ago.

Edit: Or now that I think about it, it might have been an m30. Don't quite remember.

All the marine application engines use forged steel cranks. Don't know what BMW uses in it's various automotive apps, just something to keep in mind. It would suck to have a rod exit the pan and try to go for a swim.

It is an m30 but not called an m30...I almost bought one and put it in a car. They have an entire fleet of BMW Marine engines, which most are diesel. They are pretty damn sweet too. Carbed and forged, can't beat that.

          Check it.

Other than having to completely change the exhaust and cooling system its a great idea. Oh and the fact that marine engines usually "cruise" with 30-50% more RPMs than a car engine.

              Go for it.

BTW this entire post was sarcasm, its a completely stupid fucking idea and will end in heartbreak for you.

Ok, so even though I had a perfectly good M20 engine that I couldn't use to power a generator or a boat, what can a spare engine be used for other than putting in a car?

Make a bad ass coffee table if you take the head and oil pan off and put a piece of glass on top.

Then use the crank with which to make a lamp.
