Anyone watching this? Like Band of Brothers but with a little less action and a shitload more hilarity. Really great miniseries.

Generation Kill

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.Tags: None -

My brother is a 1st Sargeant with Second Recon. I have been watching it. My brother said that it is a pretty accurate description of the way that the men intereact with each other. He said that there is a constant level of hilarity in the way that they constantly fuck with each other. He went on to say that there is a high degree of tension between the men in times where they are not in actual combat situations, due mostly to the fact that Recon Marines are the most highly trained fighting force in the US Military. In shorter terms they dont like sitting around and doing nothing. This is also accurately portrayed. He went on to say that he didnt feel that the portrayal of the men that are in command of these forces is very accurate. He read the book that the show is adapted from, and the over all view of the book is the commanders are dumbasses and that the men on the ground are the only ones with any sense of what is going on. He readilly agreed that there is a very large disconnect between the commanding forces in the rear ecchelons (<---sp?) and the troops on the ground. He continued to insist that it is not as drastic as the book and the show portrays.
Having said that, I have enjoyed this mini-series very much. In my opinion HBO is the best at picking and producing there original series. Starting with Dream On, through Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, and now Generation Kill. Top notch.sigpicComment

Excellent to hear how the show compares to real life. They really really portray the commanders as complete morons on the show. I think anyone watching can realize its not really that bad.
Yeah HBO is finally redeeming itself with this miniseries. After the Sopranos finished they had nothing decent except Entourage and the Wire(which i havent gotten into). Showtime has been kicking supreme ass with Weeds, Dexter and Californication, all amazing shows.

To reach that level in the Marine Corps you just cant be that much of a dumbass. The Corps weeds people like that out. Still a great show though.Excellent to hear how the show compares to real life. Word on the shows from Showtime. Dexter is my favorite. The Dexter books were pretty cool if you ever get a chance to read them.sigpicComment

Hmm...I think I may have to watch this.
I grew up living in Paris Island, SC when my dad was a drill instructor there and when he was stationed in Guantanamo. Hell, I remember going and visiting him in Gauntanamo and flying there in on of the C130's (I believe) and having them open the rear bay to drop supplies to ships. My 2.9L Build!

Yeah, I'm going to have to disagree with you, too. SOMEONE inevitably falls through the cracks, and usually, they are your boss.

yes i was. and i know from experience they have some of the most uneducated members of any armed forces. thats not to say they arent serious dedicated soldiers. and good at what they do. and obviously im generalizing here but when i enlisted i was surrounded by criminals who entered to avoid jail and uneducated inner city kids looking for a way out of the ghetto. maybe things have changedComment
