WANTED: Fleabag Motel in E King County

Hey guys, the wife and I are gonna check out the east King County area, possibly for relocation. She needs work and this place sucks ass.

We need a place to stay for a week or so, dirt cheap. Like under $200/wk cheap.

All we need is reasonably clean and decent, fairly central location. A fridge would be nice, but not necessary. She is gonna be there a week, I am likely gonna couch surf for a week or so after she leaves.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks!
    Luke

Well, I must confess ignorance here. North side of east KC, maybe? Bellevue/Redmond maybe?

She and I have been talking about relocating for quite some time, and since my Father has left San Diego, we are talking about moving to Seattle.

So, we know dick about the area. We have googled all kinds of shit, still know basically nothing. Car stereo shops up there are nearly busy, I can make a decent living while looking for a career change.

I want to get into sales in IT or communication, something B2B.

She looks at CL daily for work as an office admin. 3 or 4 jobs a week at most. She checked CL in Seattle, nearly 600 jobs she is qualified for...so we want to come up and see if there is room for us in King County.

Let me know what you guys think.

      Luke

Damn, it's not gonna be cheap living in Bellevue/Redmond. You are also going to have a hard time finding a shitty hotel in that area. Good luck.

So how about WHERE should I look?

We need a place to stay, is Tacoma gonna be cheaper?

I found a fleabag in Tacoma that was cheap, should we stay there?

I appreciate the concern, but no, it isn't.

She can't find a decent job in this shithole and the shop is not busy enough to make it.

Staying outside of Redmond/Bellevue will be much cheaper (I'd go either north of there or south of there). I am not too familiar with places north of there, so I will give you my knowledge on staying south.

Looking for jobs will be way better in Seattle than it will be in Tacoma. There are tons more avaiable in Seattle (like 10:1 at least). To save some dough on a place to stay where the commute doesn't completely suck (this would work for both hotel and house/apt) I would check out Federal Way or Sea-Tac. Federal Way will probably be a little nicer than Sea-Tac, but Sea-Tac is a little further north and would cut another 15min off the drive to Seattle.

I don't stay in motels by my house very often, so your priceline search would be as good as mine. I would just search around the Sea-Tac airport and then work for whatever is cheapest. You could go north to Lynwood area or south to Federal Way or Sea-Tac.

Good to hear that you are coming up north. Let me know if you need help in any way. I hope things get better!

Is there an Extended Stay America in the area where you're headed? Decent rooms, kitchenette, cheap.

You also have to take into account that living up north costs a hell of a lot more than tacoma does, and there's plenty of high quality audio shops and jobs in the tacoma/gig harbor area. In fact if luke opened up a shop in GH i'm sure he'd bring in tons of bank.

I've never paid more than $50-$55/night. Weekly rates are cheaper.

Lots of rich, spoiled high school kids that drive nice cars who want to put expensive stereo systems in them in Gig Harbor. Also decently affordable living outside the city limits, and a good place for a family.

However, the commute to the center sucks balls. My dad commutes to Redmond everyday from Gig Harbor (granted, with a carpooler), and it's gnarly. If you're looking for a career change, you may want to get closer to the center. Redmond and Bellevue are way too pricey. Maybe Snohomish, Monroe, or Duvall to the Northeast, Edmonds/Lynnwood to the Northwest, or Shoreline just to the North (all with respect to Seattle). Bothell might be a good place to look as well...nice middle ground between Kirkland/Bellevue/Redmond area and Seattle (as far as commute goes). It all depends what you're looking for/used to. You can always find a cheap place to live, it just may be shit compared to what you had for the same price before.

Also consider south of Seattle...Burien, Tukwila, Seatac, Federal Way, Des Moines, Kent, Renton, Tacoma. Tacoma actually has some decent places to live, and there are always opportunities for an IT-related job. James may be able to give you some guidance in that area since that's his bread and butter.

Now as far as cheap motels go. You can always find a sleezy motel in the Seatac area. Can't name any specifics. Then there are always the Aurora motels up by shoreline/Edmonds (just south of the Costco I work at). Keep in mind some of these places rent by the hour, so you may have some unwanted noises at any given moment coming from the neighboring rooms. Let me know when you get into town...I'm happy to help you find one. I have Tuesday and Wednesday off this week.

And, finally, don't forget the fender roller...are we still on for this?
