Where it belongs? The masses were not made to consume hip hop? Are you kidding?

I won't even compare it to what people listen too today. Alot of the Hip Hop I listened to back in the day made me a smarter kid. A good amount of it was intelligent and insightful. As a kid growing up, I gained a bit of wisdom and smarts from it. At least enough to open my eyes and think about certain things.

IMO, hip hop died when Tupac left the DU.

Thanks god for J5, Blackalicious and other intelligent, non-violent rap.

the music is now too big a industry for suits not to try to make money off of. Thats the biggest difference today.

Back even before big l and ditc.....people never felt it was a viable format, and pretty much tried to suppress it. In doing so it made people go out and get people to hear them(ie street battles) and made them hungry to just get on. It was more about a push against the coporate machine(hence fun rhyme battles, rather then violence).

Ditc and Big L werent big enough yet to make the kind of impact that biggie or pac did during their respective times. If anything big L got taken down before he could blossom into that stage of hugely recognized MC. He obviously had the talent. But who knows what really kept him down, label, crew, etc.....just sucks we will never know.

Well, I agree with what you said really.
Because from "The Big picture" on up, Fat Joe was different. Jay Z was different. Everything evolved into shit I dont really care for. Which sucks because I love hip hop. And I love Nas too, but unfortunately he isnt hip hop. Never was to be honest with you. (flame suit on)

I had a huge discussion last night with one of my friends over hip hop. Hes a turn tablist.
You can still see remnants of hip hop around today with people under the stairs, and Q Tip releasing another album.

Thus Biggie and Tupac started the rap movement as we know it today

^ I agree that was when it started to go down hill to what we have on the radio today. But there is still good hip hop out there, it is just harder to find now.

How the heck did I miss this thread?

There are also some "cross-over" rap songs to techno and mixes that I love too that are missing here. 180 BPM sutff. But you can not go wrong with the old school snoop. sklee-lo, rum-dmc, beastiy boys/ hip hop tell you pop.

    God bless 1990.
