should I get an E30?

Hi guys, I've been thinking lately that I really want an E30, I love them so much since I was a kid. Right now I have a 95 Mazda 626 with 125k miles in a pretty good shape. I had no problems with it for the last 4 years. I think I could get 2k for it and get myself an E30. The problems is that E30's are pretty old cars and need some work to be reliable. I'm concerned that the E30 won't be so reliable as my current car and I NEED a reliable car that would also work when it's really cold outside. So anyways should I get one?

For an unbiased opinion, I'd recommend going to the mazda forum and ask what they think.

But honestly, for 2k you may be lucky and find a car that has recently had a lot of maintenance done before the sale, or you may find a crap heap that needs loads of work.

However, maintenance isn't very expensive, as long as you're not doing a complete overhaul. There isn't much that can't be fixed with a basic mechanic tool set and garage space. Others will argue that there isn't anything that can't be fixed in your garage with that same tool set.

Just look around for cars for sale, and do a lot of reading on the board. You'll find there is a wealth of information to be found.

You might need to sit on that 2k to find the RIGHT e30 for you.

Also, the e30 is a hellovalot easier to work on that a blasted 626. These cars are stupidly simple.

I just picked up a pretty nice (nice for the price) one for $500 and I love it!! I own 2003 Lexus IS300 and I'm so much more excited about my good ole' E30. I love to drive it. I got lucky on my purchase, as well as waited for the right one to come around when it did I made the move. Missed out on a beauty with an mtech2 kit, really nice paint/interior and what not for $750 with a blown head gasket but in the end I'm glad I waited.

if the 626 hasn't given you problems, keep it. Save more money, get an e30 and sell the mazda when the e30 is up to snuff.

i'm with everyone else on this. a $2k e30 without a little money put into it for some fluids, bushings, etc will not be reliable. save some more money and have $500-$1k to put into the car when you get it. you may not need that much, but if you are going to be driving it every day i would probably expect to spend that much to make it comfortable and not just drivable.

uhh its a e30 forum, of course the answer is going to be no. buy a car that was made to be a efficient, low maintenance and reliable... oh like a Honda Civic, then throw tons of mods and upgrades to reach uber hawtess and reliability

As stated above, stick with the Mazda for a while. $2k could get you an E30, but an unreliable one. Are you good with mechanics skills? Working on E30s is pretty damn simple, but they require some TLC (in the form of $$$ and time) to be reliable. Mine started out as a $2250 automatic blown headgasket trasher but I sunk about $5k into it and it has never failed me in 5+ years.

Im looking at this

I know it's a 1.8L and has no LSD, but the condition seems pretty good, also has AC and power windows which is very important for me. The price is a little high but I think I can get it down a little. One more problem I don't know how drive a MT :D
