Actually you can just put a fat32 hard drive in the ps3, instructions come in the playstation box. You could also stream video from your computer to it if you want.

About this linux thing, emulator you say? How hard is this, and are there any negative repercussions?

i was referring to how you can back it up. if you replace the hard drive with another hard drive, you cant really back up the original hard drive.

Last time i checked (which was not very recently), You had to use a USB keyboard and mouse. bluetooth keyboards and mice werent supported. Also, you had to have a wired ethernet connection because the wireless card in the PS3 was not supported. so unless your PS3 was right next to a router already and you had wireless USB keyboard and mouse, its a hassle and basically no point.

i just now checked the YDL site and they have a new version of YDL out (v6.0). i hope they have added various compatibility features that weren't there in 5.0 which might make installing it on the PS3 more worthwhile.

Yeah, I actually had to use wireless. It wouldn't work with a wired connection.

I am wired, but the wireless works fine. And all my bits are running off bluetooth, mouse, keyboard etc.

I know, I meant to say that in addition to that you can just replace the hard drive

i own both a 360 and a ps3, and i find myself buying multi-platform games for 360 because i have more friends with a 360. The console exclusives are also better on 360, although there are some decent ones coming out for PS3 these days. I feel like the greater variety of games comes on the PS3 side, also. 360 is great for racing and FPSs, but the PS3 has a little bit of everything.

To me, this discrepancy in games is unfortunate because as a piece of technology the PS3 is much greater than a 360. i much prefer the GUI of the PS3, the controller of the PS3, and the PS3 is obviously more capable in terms of various media support. also, the 360 has pretty horrendous reliability issues, and mine makes all kinds of disconcerting noises and gets super hot (in well ventilated areas, even). luckily i havent had any problems with mine, but every single one of my friends, except one, has had to send their 360 in for repair/replacement because they got the red ring of death.

i try not to favor either side more than the other and like to think i can give a fairly unbiased assessment of both sides.

both consoles have new price drops now and both are great deals. the 360 can be had for as low as $200 soon without a hard drive, which might start kicking the face off of the wii. the 80gb PS3 has dropped to $400 which is a pretty good deal considering its media capabilities (BD player, SACD player, great music/movie interface, etc). But i think not enough care about the blu-ray stuff for the PS3 to start outselling the 360, and most people don't have an HDTV anyway.
