I'm a little bored, so I'll spew sony for a minute...
As a 60gb, yours is backwards compatible and has the card reader and 4 usb ports. But it's also an older unit (launch year), so keep an eye on that. It excels at being a blu-ray player just because it's updatable.
You can't hook the PS3 directly to your PC, but you can set up a media server connection and share content between the two.
My suggestion is before you go too far, go spend a few dollars on the largest 2.5" laptop hard drive you can find. 5400 speed only, the 7200 don't make any difference for the extra cost. Once you do this, connect it to the net, update the system, and go from there. Don't turn it into a Linux system unless you want to be all hordcorz. It's fine the way it is.
The online content kicks ass. You make an account, then go on the PS Store, and see what you like. Demos, downloadable games, themes, etc. Most of the good games cost 10 bucks on average. There have been a lot of these lately too... play the demos and find something you like.
The bluetooth keyboard thing kicks ass. I have one, and use it easily with the ps3. The system has a browser built in for the net, but it's not 100% compatible with some flash and media content. No big really.
Get yourself a Dual Shock 3 if you like rumble, and use the other as a backup. The weight alone is worth it. Think of it like throwing a zhp shifter into your ride... it just feels better than stock.
Otherwise, have fun man!! It's a great system!
