There is some decent information on E30tech....unfortunately it is usually impossible to find due to the fact that their search function sucks balls.

They use the same exact imageboard software and thus the same exact search function as r3v.

      Did someone mention porn?

Then why doesn't it work as good as r3v. The search function has always blown random men on e30tech. One of the many reasons r3v is better all around forum and Criv is the freaking man.

          No.

Go search for m20, s50, e30 m3, or any other three letter or less words. Just more douchebaggery from the management.

If you wanted M20 information wouldn't you do a specific word(s) search in the M20 sub forum?

Just don't search for 'ZEN', it doesn't exist on E30 tech LOL.

You guys hate on E30Tech too much. :)

Sigh. I'm not just talking about engine or chassis designations. There are literally thousands of two or three letter acronyms that could be considered relevant. If I remember a thread or topic that I want to search for, it is easy for me to find when I can enter specific things about it that I remember.

When people on the forum reply with, "Search" to new people, they ought to be able to do so without any stupid restrictions. Can you give me a good reason for restricting strings that are three letters or less? Is Chris really that afraid of a business that refused to pay him money for sponsorship?

And I don't know what the poster above me is talking about. Why did you reply with one word and spell it incorrectly? I know it's kind of trendy to spell respect with a k, but combining it with nothing more makes you look half retarded.

Well, I get your point, but I'm still right. Their database is configured to have a minimum word length of 4 for indexable words, which means it ignores stuff like TPS and ICV when indexing threads for search, thus making searches for those words not work.

It's not douchebaggery from the management, just dickery from the colo guys too lazy to change a MySQL conf string. They've had a thread about fixing this for a year or so, but 'the management' has not been in touch, which we already know is a problem.

The search algorithm is exactly the same as r3v's.

That's cool, but if you want to get all technical, you are not right. The search functions are not "Exactly the same" as you said they are in the sense that if they were searching the same data, they would return different results (or in e30tech's case, it will return 0 results).

Sure the software is identical, but they do not perform exactly the same. Your original reply to MoparJ was intended to say that they are no different.

And yeah, it is douchebaggery. It was not originally like that, even with this software.

No, I'm sorry, although you're picking at technicalities, I'm still right, because I can out-nitpick you :)

The _search_ functions are identical. The _indexing_ functions are identical as well, but due to a configurable value in the MySQL database server that serves e30tech's data, running the same indexing function on the same data but in two different environments produces different results.

Changing this variable would probably take about a minute and a person that knows how to do it, but good luck motivating the colo center guy to get up off his fat ass, get the food chunks out of his neckbeard, and go fix it.

Get down from your podium, especially when you make yourself look like a dick because you have no idea what you are talking about.

We all know you have something against the place. Such small search queries place a big load on a database, so much that it
will slow down the site operation (especially since E30tech has more people online than r3v does), by default vbulletin limits search terms to more than 3 characters to help protect against this.

If you ever bothered to read the text in the faq regarding a search, you would find that you can use * as a wildcard for any search query, so for example, S50*. It will bypass the filter by searching for anything containing s50, in any combination at all regardless of the positioning of term in a word, it will return 3 character text.

If you really want to get picky twoj's, r3vlimited is far from perfect. The site sometimes has query problems, when hitting the submit button to reply to posts, it sometimes pauses before the post is displayed. For vbulletin, this can be due to database tables that arent optimised or I/O errors, possibly caused by corruption or an impending drive failure, or a problem with mysql backend. Regardless, queries shouldnt take that long to complete, a check at of the sql logs should show that a query took longer than expected. But, of course, r3v admins are perfect right, so they are on top of everything? I mean, every webmaster out there spends every moment of every day on their website waiting for something to happen, right? they are all expected to know everything about everything and be on top of every single detail?

Seriously, a lot of you on here have no idea how the back end of vbulletin works, the amount of conspiracy theories started in here is just unbelieveable. Yes, the entire E30tech admin team is out to make everything in your life difficult, they dream up new ways to fuck you around daily.

Man, some of you just need to wind it back a few clicks, way too much effort and hate put into your posts.

Its actually a function you can change in the admincp of vbulletin, you can limit search queries, so you can specify the number of characters, dont need to wait for the webhost admin to change it. :)
