KISS relied on spectacle rather than song quality or talent. Sadly with the right PR any crap can and will be spoon fed into gaping maw of the american consumer. I despise KISS. The makeup was the first step of "dont pay attention to the song". The Hullabaloo that happened in the early 80's about them being satanists or "Knights In Satans Service" or whatever drew in teenage boys and secured their place in music history. Sadly it should have been right next to Terrance trent darby and Kriss Kross but no...once a band has a comic book they are here to stay.

There are many others that I hate equally to KISS, Elton John, New Kids on the Block, Bryan Adams, Richard Marx....I could go on for days but.....The one artist I hate more than kiss would have to be James fucking Taylor. "How sweet it is" inspires instant rage. "Whenever I see your smiling face" will send me over the top. If I ever meet or am within 12 feet of that man I will try to harm him, regardless of personal injury or risk of incarceration.

Taking KISS seriously makes no sense. They should never be taken seriously, just enjoyed for sheer entertainment sake. Like Poison, they are fairly subpar, but it's fun to listen to certain songs every once in a while when at a party or on a road trip. My brother is a huge fan, I never understood why. However, I do have their older stuff on my Itunes, and will regularly break out songs from Alive ore Destroyer. Something about their old stuff is fun, they were a themed band like GWAR, that's all.

I suppose all of this started because of the continued soul-sucking of classic rock and how its become trendy to like some really awesome bands. Like the commercials for "Rock Band" and seeing all these trendy kids in 200 dollar jeans jumping around with fake guitars. Fucking shame. And how everyone thinks its cool to throw up "I love you" in sign-language instead of the actual "devils horns" sign in pictures. People who have no fucking business doing so seeing as they have no fucking idea what they are doing. And how commercials make it unbearable to listen to songs that I have been loving for decades. Now I cant hear The fucking Who without thinking of these CSI assholes. Im just frustrated that it had to get here. Oh, AND HOW THE FUCK did IGGY POP become the theme song for CLUB MED or ROYAL CRUISES or whatever?? How absolutely at the opposite ends of the spectrum can you get??? The definition of upper class, bloated, self-indulgence taking IGGY fucking POP's song and having it as their theme song.

Its not that I take KISS too seriously. Its that on one hand they are unashamed capitalists that tell you to your face basically that youre being duped. And on the next they act like they are preserving the essence of rebellion and how theyre in it for the fans. As if they are leading the charge of praising at the temple of Holy Mother Rock and all those fucking beautiful mystic terms they make up that are full of shit.

Well they are part of the holy trinity of overrated bands. But at least The Grateful Dead and Nirvana have musical talent that I can appreciate. They arent even close to the disgusting hypocrisy that is KISS. I just cant stand it when I hear Simmons and STanley talk about the fans and "believing in rock and roll" and acting like they are the fucking epitome of the spirit of rock when they are the opposite of that. Taking everyone for what they are worth for the love of the dollar. I just cant stop. Im sorry.

Elton John, when broken down and removing the saturated nature of his songs on the radio is a genius, MUSICALLY. At least in the 70's. But I can understand why you dislike him, I did for the longest time. James Taylor unfortunately came out with those songs you state, but shouldnt be judged on them alone. Either way, I can understand what youre saying and respect it without really having an amotion on it. KISS on the other hand.........ugh.

HATE the Kiss music... don't ever listen to it... EVER. Gene's show is fake and scripted, but so is all other "reality" TV. I do however enjoy watching it because Sophie and Nick are f'ing hilarious. They are very quick witted and intelligent... and are constantly ragging on Gene. As is his wife... errr Shannon Tweed. So it's a win. Get to see his daughter with her hoog titties and have them knock Gene down a peg or two.

On a side note... I do actually like a few songs on 1 ICP album. *flamesuit* The few songs that I like do manage to tell a story and actually have some sort of point about the state our society is in. Having said that I don't get into the whole makeup thing and would never want to act like a "juggalo". "Bunch of easily led automotons!" But so is 70% of Americans... but that's another rant thread :)

I like Queen. They had a very distinctive style, and came up with a lot of cool sounds in the studio that no one would have thought of. One of those bands that you instantly know who it is as soon as you hear it, even if Freddy isnt singing. The tone on Mays guitar is great, as well as how he uses the sustain. But the key is that they never took themselves too seriously. Freddy was always very tongue in cheek about the whole thing. You can see it in their concert at Wembley. He was having fun with the crowd and genuinely enjoyed it.
