    Hyundai Genesis commercial

    Hyundai's premise, to get their car associated with a Porsche is that the new Genesis is faster to 60 than a Boxster.

    I come away from that reference that the Boxster is slow, not that the Genesis is fast

    Yes, but 99% of potential Hyundai customers hear Porsche and think "fast".

      While Hyundai's new in-house developed "Tao" V8 is mighty impressive, it seems that the little Korean company is letting its impressive perfromance figures get to their heads.

        Benchmark comparisons aside, if you think a 375hp sedan is slow you'd better not say that around any E39 M5 guys. 5.7 0-60 and 10.7bs/HP is pretty impressive. Mock it if you will, but the new Genesis will be a game-changing car for the entire industry.

            I did not say the Genesis was slow. I said the Boxster was.

            The Boxster is supposed to be a sports car, it is slow.

                The Boxster has yet to lose it's chick appeal ever since Legally Blonde.

                That movie nearly clusterfucked the whole brand.

                  the boxter was a tiptronic that is kinda like driving with the e brake on.
                  boxter = meh
                  boxter S = :mrgreen:

                    honestly, I have a lot of respect for what Hyundai's trying to do.. they realized their market niche and are taking a huge gamble to bring themselves out of it. It's kinda like what Toyota and Honda pulled off in their transition from shitty econoboxes in the '80's to the luxury/upscale brand they are today. But, Hyundai is directly challenging the entire market, culture, and BMW/Merc/Lexus claims to fame. I hope their product exceeds the boasting.

                      Except Toyota/Honda/Nissan never made the crap that was the Excel.

                      They made good to very good cars for 20 years before venturing upmarket. Hyundai has only made good cars for at most ten years, maybe less.

                      Most of the real idiot drivers I see lately are in Kias or Hyundais.

                        that's the point. It's clear they're trying as hard as they can to dramatically turn their image and products around, and doing it very deliberately. They're trying to force themselves into the luxury car game. It's ballsy, and will fail if they don't exceed all expectations.

                          plus honda/toyota/nissan made the jump to luxury with a new "brand" i do admit they did make an atracitve car. looks like they dumped all of their competitors cars into one of those picture boths that shows you what your kid will look like and made that car.

                            I was shocked to see both motor trend and car & driver said very kind words about this car, usually one of them has a thumbs up and one down. On paper this is a very attractive car, I think it will attract a lot of Lexus/Acura/Buick/Caddy buyers.
