I F'n HATE American Sheeple and our damn media

Last night gas jumped 50 cents and the storm hasn't even hit yet. News starts the scare.

2pm this afternoon at lunch with co-worker. He gets a text from a girl that says "Nick go get gas, it will be 6 dollars tomorrow". That is right, it WILL be 6.

    7pm
I get home from work and my mom calls, apparently in 1 week it will be 2x to 3x the price it is today. Mom I thought you were better than this?

    10pm
I go to Andretti and run some kart racing, I drive home. First 5 stations I pass no have plastic bags, yellow tape and no gas signs. Are you fucking joking? I pass the last station near my house and there is honking and yelling and there are 8 pumps with cars 10 deep...

God damnit I hate the media in this country. I hate the American sheep. This happened years ago and the Mayor said "We are NOT going to run out of gas, just fill up as normal". The local media reports everyone is running out. I pass stations and soccer moms have 10 5 gallon jugs and filling up their 20gal SUV and guess what? Stations ran out. Of course they will run out if EVERYONE goes to the station all at once... The tanks aren't large enough to hold that much gas.

All of this and it was a 2, scare the SHIT out of everyone that it is going to hit at a 3 and it appears it made landfall as a weak 2 and immediately was a 1.

I feel bad for the damage it is causing and everyone involved but everytime this is getting out of hand.

Yeah well our refineries for Petro-Canada and Esso are located in Canada. Our gas prices went up 12 cents a liter overnight because of this stupid hurricane 2000 miles away. Explain that one.

Because the United States is what is classified as a LOE (large open economy) and when you fuck with the supply/demand curves of a LOE, it effects the world as a whole.

Its not just Canada, so dont feel too special.

            LOL

Here in town we have the same shit.

Idiots were lined up at one gas station waiting 15-20 mins to fill up but not the BP 2 blocks down. I filled up w/ premium @ $4.13/gal... WHY was no one coming down to the BP gas station where there were no lines? Because they only had 89 and 93.

Dumbasses waiting 20 minutes to fill up because they don't want to pay the extra $2 to fill up with 89 but they immediately go into the gas station and buy a pack of cigarettes and a lotto scratch off ticket.

Jesus christ your so brainwashed that you actually believe the supply/demand fuel price bullshit.......

This is the reason why fuel prices are so high. Blind acceptance.

                    ?

Im assuming you are trying to correlate the price of a barrel of oil to the price of gas? Have you seen the breakdown of how a barrel of oil is used?

Because the gas companies raise prices. They may be supplying it at 50 cents higher, but guess what?

The dumbasses 8 deep in line are demanding it at that price.

No I'M not. But that is what has been done since the doubling of gas......

Question. Why is diesel more expensive than gasoline?

Gas stations themselves make close zero margin on gas. Refineries make a very small amount on gas. Gas companies and the government take the majority of the money made on gas.

And we were all willing to accept it as it went higher and higher.....

I remember the old saying, but it's only 1 dollar more per tank. Then it's only 2...........etc,etc....

I'm not 'that' old but I remember fuel prices fluctuating a few cents back in the day. Now we make BIG jumps all the time.........

While its true that a jump from $2 to $3/gallon is smaller than a jump from $3 to $4 on a percentage basis, I cant really offer an explanation on why the fluctuations are greater.

Probably the best answer I can offer you is that markets are so much more enabled now than in the past. So much of the market is controlled electronically, its tough to make an estimate on how much the time factor of the whole situation has effected the market as a whole.

On suggestion was to make the commodity traders take delivery on the shit they buy and sell. For example, a Goldman Sachs buys 300,000 barrels of crude. They would actually have to take delivery of it before they sold it off, instead of just "owning" it electronically.
