Tough that sounds like a great idea, they would just charge that storage fee in the price when they sold it again. And property of today to hold that many barrels would be crazy, plus the security, epa, etc....... Gas would be $10 per in a heart beat.

People just need to be shot for greed thats all.

Probably the best answer I can offer you is that markets are so much more enabled now than in the past. So much of the market is controlled electronically, its tough to make an estimate on how much the time factor of the whole situation has effected the market as a whole.

On suggestion was to make the commodity traders take delivery on the shit they buy and sell. For example, a Goldman Sachs buys 300,000 barrels of crude. They would actually have to take delivery of it before they sold it off, instead of just "owning" it electronically.
      Amen!

The commodities markets are there for a reason and they are good. But if you buy the rights to buy a commodity, then guess what pal, you just bought a 1000 tons of hog's feet. The rights to buy should be non-transferable. That will stop a lot of the bullshit that has been happening lately. The commodities markets have turned into yet another day trader, hedge fund, "I've got a system" lotto.

And back on topic, yeah, people are sheeple. Irresponsible media is a big part of that picture though. If you were told that all the water on earth was about to dry up, you would go out and buy every last drop you could. Even if water wasn't going to dry up, and sane people know this, it is still going to start a huge run on water making it a necessity that you play along or die. People believe what they are told and what is implied on the "news", and why shouldn't they? It is the "news" after all. The "news reporters" are supposed to report what has happened and what is happening. Unfortunately, that fine line between facts and one of a million possibilities often is crossed in the name of ratings and because of bias.

Our media is both one of the greatest things about America, and also one of its curses. For me, it is like the boy who cried wolf. They have left the realm of professionalism and joined the ranks of the WWF. And we are to blame because we don't demand more professionalism in our media. 75% of the reason for that is that there are a lot of people out there who take anything in a newspaper or on the 6 O'clock news as the truth and nothing but.

The funny thing is that I am in Marketing. Part of my job is "spin". I take a product, look for its benefits and its weaknesses and I will either ignore the weaknesses or try to spin it into something positive. It isn't underpowered, it is fuel efficient. I see most of the media doing exactly the same thing but in an even more warped way. They use key words and phrases with subtle misdirections that are part of the Marketing business (and the slimier side of it at that). The difference is that these people are supposed to be telling the truth and reporting the facts. Instead, you get something designed to keep you on the edge of your seat and spur innuendo and drama. I personally find it sickening. When I put a fact down on a brochure or in an ad, I guarantee that it is a true fact, not overstated, and not designed to imply something more than it is. To do so would be both illegal and unethical. I won't do it. I really wonder how these media pukes sleep at night.

I really hate replying to these threads because it usually goes the wrong way and plus; this is not the political board... this is an E30 forum..

I think it would be hard pressed to pin point the problem down to one issue; it is after all both the corporate, the media, and the oil suppliers; that is if we consider that they are all separated.

I don't believe we live in a supply/demand economy any more; that has changed. I think one should look more into: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Friedman.

On a California King, in a 1.2 million dollar mansion, and their money in off shore accounts?
