Yup, possibly a double repost actually. Not that late model airbags would protect the driver much better. I've never been hit by one, but it sounds like us early model/non-airbag guys may have it better.- Trey

Yeah racing in general back in the day used to be pretty brutal. There was something about it on Nat Geo a while ago, I think the stats used to be like 1 in 4 racers would die in a crash.
Everything is MUCH better these days. I mean you can still die easy, but its leaps and bounds better than those early videos.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

Seeing that makes you really appreciate all the safety improvements that have been made in the last decade alone. F1 is still a very dangerous sport, but I look at the wreck Kubica had in Canada last year and the guy only suffered some bruises and a spranged ankle....and within a month he was back racing.Rides...
