the only "cheap chinese knockoff" ive ever purchased, was a manifold. because i was a difference of about $1,800. other than that, ive never touched ebay stuff. i cant believe the amount of peope that only buy that stuff though.

Nobody's talking about the Greddy situation, someone brought that up earlier as an example of another prominent aftermarket company closing its doors.
Charlie was saying that the cheap Chinese Zender knock-offs that litter eBay were probably a primary reason why Zender is closing its doors as well.

Were your compliments at Vintage at the Vineyards all lies ? :(
:D Nah, not on early models. Their stuff looks great on early models. I meant late model E30's.

I see Zender knock-offs on eBay.co.uk and eBay.de quite a bit actually. I'm not sure of the Chinese origin, but it usually goes under the title of "Zender style".

The only Zender knockoffs I've seen have been from Eurostop...
Maybe Zender closing has more to do with a failing world economy than with BeirBrennerE30 trying to justify spending $700 on pedal covers because they came with a slip of paper saying they were "authentic..."
Cheap chinese knockoffs putting a 30+ year old quality BMW aftermarket company out of business doesn't bother you?
It bothers me.
+1. Its a sad reality in a lot of businesses these days, but I understand why it happens. Being competitive is all about the bottom line now. The days of lengendary tuners which helped marques get more established in various markets are fading away because "faster & cheaper" is the new hero.

Just because I dont want my car covered in gaudy rip off ebay crap.... No justification needed. I like ACS stuff so that's what I buy. No matter what you think all these fake ebay parts kill reputable aftermarket suppliers. Just as Trust... or to hit closer to home ask MarkD who says he wont offer his latest chip because so many people ripped his last one off. I support companys who have supported the BMW aftermarket for decades by buying their stuff... not jackasses out to make a quick buck on other peoples ideas.

I completely agree with you and in most walks of life I will happily pay the few extra bucks to know I'm getting something that's been proven and tested to do what it's advertised to do.
My point though, is that EVERYTHING is suffering these days and products and services that can be considered frivolous (yes, automotive tuning is frivolous) are usually the first ones to feel the squeeze. Having cheap knockoff companies stealing your thunder deals a blow as well but the plain and simple fact is that people just aren't buying as many mods for their cars as they were, be they original or copies.

i know it wasnt the main topic at hand. but i could directly relate to the greddy/trust/grex issue. i dont think they are the same though. greddy is/was a much larger company than zender. where chinese knockoffs are more prominant. zender, being a much smaller, much more niche company was probably more effected by the economy's they catered to. not so much because of cheap chinese knockoffs. just my thoughts. but like i said, im not all THAT familiar with what zender had to offer. so i could be totally offbase.
