Both my senators are excellent, but they got conned into this. So stupid to bail out companies that made bad investments. The only reason to bail them out, which no one is mentioning, is that the government forced Fannie and Freddie to increase the mortgages for low and middle income people. That created the bubble by messing with the market and demand, and when they couldn't pay... created excess supply and the price crash and all this drama.
But hey, Clinton was the best president in the last decade right? He can't do any evil besides Monica. He was very pro home ownership for all, but what could have been the problem with that? Oh okay, let's blame bush for failed economic policies...

[Note: The OMB estimates earmarks to be 16.9 billion in 2008. Current federal expenditures for 2008 are not yet available, so the chart uses the 2007 value of 2880.5 billion from the BEA (the ratio is approximately one half percent, i.e. 0.59%). Since federal expenditures for 2008 will exceed those of 2007, this means that the area for earmarks shown in the diagram is overestimated, i.e. it is larger than the true value. The NY Times also notes that "earmarks ... make up less than 1% of the federal budget."].sigpic

I know its not the most "ideal" way to solve things, but sometimes the best lessons learned are the harshest one. Rather than have the Gub-ment get involved, let the market sort out this mess on its own. No safety nets, no tax payer funded handouts, and certainly no pork-barrel projects to muck things up. Doing this would probably mean a long and deep recession - the like of which this country hasn't seen/experienced in a long long time and would most certainly spread worldwide to varying degrees. The shit will eventually get sifted out and anyone holding a position of political power would be shown the door.
Tough lesson for sure, but one that wouldn't be forgotten for at least a generation or two.
