Try getting your coffee with soy Josh and see if that changes anything.

Morning showers really help. Also try eating some breakfast before heading out to work.

From someone who never gets enough sleep due to stupidly insane schedule, this is all you need.

Works as advertised. Keeps you awake without the buzz.

Go to sleep early!!! It doesn't work for me cause I simply cannot go to sleep early. I'm blessed to live 4.213 miles from work yet sometimes still get to work late... I remember when I could wake up early and have coffee and all that shit and go to work. Answer is, truthfully, sowfully early to bed, reap an early rise....

Eat something. I usually make a waffle taco ( so im not too full for the bike ride)

Take a waffle, put an assload of butter or w/e, slap some syrup on there. Throw some sausage on it. Fold like a taco and enjoy. You could make it like a regular sandwich too, its just too filling for me in the mornings. If your really health conscious and don't want the sugar rush/crash decrease the amount of butter and sugar. OH and drink lotsa milk. It supposedly kick starts everything like your metabolism and such.

Then listen to death metal. Preferably with really fast double bass pedal drums.

I'm more of a hip-hop guy, but when I go out on my 4 mile bike commute to school I fuckin smash in the bike lane while listening to death metal.

I disagree on the showering in the morning. It really eats up a lot of time and my showers only last like 2 minutes.

Yeah. Thats like when I picked up smoking just because I was bored at school during our breaks. Pick up a deadly habit to solve a trivial problem. Well not so trivial. Ive nodded off at the wheel (not due to sleep) and it was no bueno.

Try a different brew of coffee, as kevin suggested, try something with soy instead of dairy. That is most likely the culprit for a messed up stomach. Not the coffee.

Smoking works great, but as said...that's just another long term problem.

Take a shot of espresso in the morning? That shouldnt mess your stomach up too much.

green tea... you'll piss like a racehorse afterwards, but it gives you a nice long energy buzz.. and is good for you. Make it in the AM from good quality (ie go to an asian place) tea, put it in a big bottle, drink it all morning long.. you'll be 100% focused and there is no fall out like coffee. Try it ;-)

                            First person to say it!

Here's what I do...wake up at 5am, go run for 20-30 minutes, come back and shower, on the way to work drink a nice hot green tea. Best way to start the day. It's good for your digestive system and it's filled with caffeine that doesn't screw with you(me).

I turn on songs I know lyrics to or have a tendency to sing along. Keeps me up, but throat is sore sometimes. And who cares if the school bus full of short people laughs at you, make their day too.

The green tea idea reminded me of Yerba Mate, same sort of concept as far as i know, but of Argentinean origin.... and it definitely perks you up.

I have tried, and have a seriously high tolerance for coffee, energy drinks, Redline (apparently super high tolerance as in killed the bottle immediately, and felt absolutely no effects whatsoever), and 5 hour energy (kept me focused, but not all that potent), and the yerba mate does the trick best.

                                Edit:
                                from Wikipedia:
From reports of personal experience with maté, its physiological effects are similar to (yet distinct from) more widespread caffeinated beverages like coffee, tea, or guarana drinks. Users report a mental state of wakefulness, focus and alertness reminiscent of most stimulants, but often remark on maté's unique lack of the negative effects typically created by other such compounds, such as anxiety, diarrhea, "jitteriness", and heart palpitations.
If life passes you by... Downshift.
