Excuse my noobness, but where are they getting the money?

No noobness at all... i figured someone might ask. Basically, the guard opens up a PO Box.... family memebers or friends of the inmate send cash to the PO Box. The guard then smuggles the ciggarettes in and gives them to the inmate or inmates that paid for them.

Hahah... nah, i just know a few people the work or have worked for the county prison. I'll tell you one thing though... if i ever have to go to prison i'm fleeing the country. I'll never make it in there more then a month... haha.

how would they beable to trace which guard is smuggling though. That seems rather complicated. Unless they pressure the newb mom... hahahah
