I think that the reason is simple. In most countries, kids are taught history at school. And not only their country's history but also world history. Knowledge, culture and interests don't stop at the border. For having travelled a lot across the US with my 2002 or Sport bikes, I was amazed to notice that only very few Americans have interest for what happens beyond their county line, and that most, don't have the tools to be critical of their surrounding. On the opposite, the rest of the world has more curiosity for what happens in other major countries, as well as in the US. Most elections will be in the world news, just because people want to know. And the points of view, abroad, can perhaps even very different than what is perceived on American medias.

Overall, being interested in another country's policies can be part of general culture, especially if it will affect you/us. :p

Because it's a biased chart trying to make a point. Duh.

Dude, Merica is the greatest country in the world, who the fuck needs to travel to know that?

                We have best education.
                We have most freedoms.
                We have best healthcare.
                Best military.
Other countries hate us because we're the best.

It's kinda pathetic that we have to tell ourselves that we're the best, while making fun of the countries. At least we can vote.

it is saddens me how true this statement is. it seems that Americans (broad generalization i know) have grown better at complaining about a bad situation, then refusing to do anything to make an informed effort to change it, then taking any real action. nothing will fix itself, there is no American messiah that we can elect, and who will turn water in prosperity, jobs and health care for all.

true change can only take place when people start to take responsibility for their own actions and deeds, and begin to force a change in society. (i am not talking about armed revolution or anything like that). unfortunately, with the current lacidasical attitudes, i don't see that in the near future.

I couldn't agree more. The only time I've ever been embarrassed to be from America was on vacation with some friends at a resort in the Bahamas. The way the guests treated the locals was disgusting.
