They are not african american if they are Jamaican...I dont think... like said earlier (by me), African American is referring to your origin, not skin color. There are African Americans who are white. If theyre from Africa, living in America, then theyre African American.

Yes they are, the first stop off point for slave traders was all parts of the Caribbean. The natives in the islands were Indians/Mayan.

Good point. But I also think that racism is inherent in human behavior. This whole "one world, one race" thing is simply not natural. We would sure like it to be, but that is simply not the way that humans behave. Since the beginning of our species, we have fought over land, power, women, resources etc.

To attempt to unify the globe and treat everyone as an equal; especially in such a short amount of time, is really not an attainable goal.

^I agree for the most part, but if we are trying to be as accepting as we can, constantly finding ways to differentiate seems counterproductive.

i find it hard to swallow that Obama is our first "black" president. he comes from a biracial household, yet he is considered black because he doesnt look white. he is just as much "white" as he is "black." its still an accomplishment that america voted for someone that doesnt look white i guess!
its also hard for me to understand that people that live in america and think its so great always want to be from somewhere else. im curious if any smart people know if there have been studies to see how many generations it takes for people to forget where they migrated from and consider themselves of that continent. if you were born here in america, or have lived here by conscious decision for a better part of your life. youre american. not euro-american, not african american, not asian-american. assimilation is a good thing. and is inevitable with globalization.

assimilation is about as good as communism.

haha, come on. its not like you forget who your grandparents are. while we are at it, we might as well have separate but equal establishments for everyone so we dont ever have to interact with people that are different than us, let alone BREED:( its a slippery slope to believe that assimilation is bad, its verging on thinking your race is better than another, which we all know what that is...ignorance.
