Less guns in circulation makes them harder to get on the street, and less likely to be in the hands of criminals. If there are less guns available on the black market, then they will be more expensive and petty thieves on crack won't have them anymore as they can't afford them. A gun in the hand of a crack head is way more dangerous than if you and I had one...

you completely miss the point. Yes what you say is true. but the RATIO of guns in the hands of law-abiders to guns in the hands of criminals will be GREATER.

ok:

if now, law-abiding people have 6 guns, and criminals have 5, the ratio is 1.2. When guns become oulawed, law- abiding citizens may have 2 guns, while criminals (following your logic) will have 4. That makes a ratio of 0.5. get it?

No. Perhaps I didn't write the last part clear enough. The legalization of guns does not make guns exclusive to criminals, that is not what I meant at all. It does however make the purchasing or guns MUCH easier.

IF guns get more expensive because of a ban, true, only rich criminals can afford guns. This also means that only similar rich law-abiding citizens can afford guns, IF they decide to break the law, so the situation remains the same. What is more, those petty thieves with no guns can now use knives to attack the non-rich law-abiding citizens who also have no guns.
