I can't wait for Obama to get in office so can fill my gas tank, pay my bills, feed and cloth my children and heal my wounds. Not sure how he's planning to do this for everyone but this is what I've been promised by Obama supporters. I've already quit my job and spent my savings in celebration of his victory because now I don't need those things, now I have Obama!!! :bow:Comment

btw, thanks to mrsleeve's remark, i have to come out and say that I consider myself a republican and supported mccain. And regarding the hippie comment... what is so "hippie" about smart resource management and utilizing new technology? Maybe you should call Germany one big hippie country because they're like 50 years ahead of us there when it comes to that.
it's just funny how you guys jump all over Obama and the gun thing. There are more important things to worry about than your little assault rifles being banned. Seriously, they are only used for sport/target shooting, right? As long as the 2nd amendment is in place, you get to keep your precious, life preserving guns. In fact, I've thought about buying a hand gun myself because I've wanted to try it. And I don't know about you, but I don't want convicts or 10 year olds carrying guns around, and anything the government can do to keep them out of their hands is all right with me.Comment

I'd say a lot of people were voting against socialism, regardless of the candidate in opposition. McCain has already been established with a long record, whereas who knows what you are buying with Obama. McCain is the car your friend owned for a long time and you know how it runs. Obama is a car on ebay that look good but not sure if it even will drive when you get it home.
I'd definitely agree on that last part. Obama gave a reason for people who didn't have a clue about politics or the economy to vote for him. For HOPE. For CHANGE. To see a black man in office and be proud of America.
If McCain won, it would have been a sign of relief that we weren't giving up principles of liberty because it was hip to do so. Look around at the people who are pro-Obama, and you'll see people saying stuff like this: "is AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! OBAMA!!! I'm crying with happiness!!!!!!! I am so PROUD To be an American right now!!!!!!!"
edit: What it really came down to two things: people blaming everything on Bush and connecting that with McCain and McCain not being cute and warm / fuzzy. People will have to realize that what is going on is not going to stop happening with China and India wanting more food and oil. And the "change" is not going to help with that, especially his economic plans going against the Bush plan which was helping.
And McCain was old, unattractive, awkward and besides reminding you of your grandma and people couldn't get excited about him. Now that the people interested in Liberty are getting upset and angry after this BS, they hopefully with come together to protect what makes this country great, or did. There's going to be a lot of upset people who don't get what they were expecting. Like him paying for their mortgages, giving them free health care, and making sure their job doesn't go away.
After they realize that, that Obama was just another politician who doesn't represent anything greater solution for them, outside of another transfer payment like Bush's tax refund... they will not buy into the crap as much.
People had 8 years to get swollen blame at one person and think going with another politician is the answer. Well, guess what, the world is going to keep competing with us and unless realize that, we'll be in trouble.
My prediction is that half the country will be happy for a couple months, then it will wear off and they are going to turn their backs on him. The other half will try their best to prevent his plans from happening and fighting back against the bailout, the patriotic act, and other intrusion of liberty of the federal government that happened because of distress.
And then someone likable will come and be ready to lead the nation into the 'teens with action to ready us to make the most out of the global economy, teaching men to fish rather than giving them one with job re-training, and leaving minimum wage alone.Comment

Until he was for it:

He felt this way:
In 1999, McCain was in New Hampshire, campaigning for the GOP nomination as a moderate. He proclaimed himself a pro-life candidate, but told reporters that “in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade.” He explained that overturning Roe would force “women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.”
Until he felt this way:
"I don’t think a constitutional amendment is probably going to take place, but I do believe that it’s very likely or possible that the Supreme Court should — could overturn Roe v. Wade, which would then return these decisions to the states, which I support…."
There are more. A lot more.
If he were a car, I wouldn't want to be at the wheel! Somedays, turning the wheel to right would make the car turn right. Other days, the same action would cause a left turn!
Obama is not going to destroy America. With all this vitriol aimed at him and the idea he will somehow force America to give up liberty I have to ask..... Where was your righteous outrage when the Patriot Act was being signed into law? Where and how often have you protested warrantless domestic wiretapping? How about the multiple times Bush claimed "Presidential Priviledge" to hide his tracks?
If Obama had promoted these things, you'd be screaming for his anti-freedom, anti-American head on a platter. But those freedom-loving GOP boys did it, so I guess that makes it OK?Comment

I think some people are seeing that things makes sense to work with globalism rather than revolt against it. Jobs abroad makes demand there and maybe we don't make TVs here but we might be able to offer them something they now need.
I have a hard time believing that someone who really wanted to win this thing would waste the money to follow up Bush. Some liberal friend on mine posted that if Gore or Kerry won, then Obama would have not have. It took a bunch of people (sometimes rather unfairly) hating Bush to win so much support for Obama. McCain obviously wanted to give it in 2000 and unfortunately didn't get a chance to get to the big show, and came to at least play the game even if we didn't clinch the win.
Someone has 3 years to get support and raise money to prep and then come and win back the white house.
I also believe that more and more people will buy into the Libertarian view.Comment
