this sucks i dont like this one little bit. i just came back from a three beer lunch with the owner and i have to let 2 techs go by the end of the week, i just finished talking to all of them so its not a secret.

This is from a BMW dealership? I thought a 2 week notice was the norm. Man, that's a tough situation, atleast you don't have leprosy.

they will get notice i just have to figure out who by the end of the week. it is kind of a no brainer who will go but i still dont like it.

I hated firing people, but it was a necessary evil. The only fair way to do it is by ability, if you have 15 customer comebacks/complaints in the last month I'd say it's time to go.

There isn't always a logical reason behind it, you never know...My dad got laid off a year or so ago from his company, after being there for 10 years or so. He had a good enough reputation in the business that he immediately had like 3 job offers, but still.

I hate letting go of techs. It's worse when you end up working elsewhere with them under that stigma.

dont ever think that in a dealership management position!!!!!!!! the father inlaw has been in 5 dealer ships in the last 6 years. He takes the parts and service dept's form losing money to breaking records an having some of the highest CSI index's in the country only to be let go and have to train his replacement, every time.

That's the way this industry is. It's gotten much more cutthroat in the past 8-10 years.
