Student stabs classmate with pencil

Fayetteville, N.C. — Juvenile charges were pending Thursday after a 9-year-old boy injured a classmate at Cliffdale Road Elementary School, authorities said.
The boy argued with a 10-year-old girl after he discovered his pencil box was missing from his desk, authorities said. He stabbed the girl with a pencil, puncturing the upper portion of her back, authorities said.
The girl didn't require emergency medial assistance and returned to class later in the day, authorities said.
The pencil box was found in the girl's possession.
The boy could be charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, pending the completion of an investigation, authorities said. His parents picked him up from school, and school administrators were discussing disciplinary action against him.
