Never had much of a problem with Direct TV reception.
Dish network customer service was THE WORST!

I've had both, still owe directv some money and a receiver actually. I switched to dish becuase I had gotten a second tv, and directv wanted to charge me $200 bucks or something like that to get a new receiver.
But directv is better, imo easier to navigate when you're scrolling through channels and the image is bigger than dish when scrolling. And with dish the batteries die out hella fast on the second control, you get one receiver/2 tvs so the second control to that receiver wastes more battery. I'd go back to directv if I didn't already owe them money.
You should've read the directions before you showed up at the party.:stupid:
the only reason i havent switched is im scared of cable installers running 400 feet of cable all over my house across windows and generally fucking my house up. i swear all you have to have to be qualified as an installer is a pulse. worst bunch of hacks ive ever seen and they are all the same. if there are any installers on this forum you suck too,. no exceptions
Some of the worst installs I've ever seen have been done by dish techs.
As long as your basement isn't finished or you have an attic, they shouldn't need to run any cable on the exterior of the home.
(EDIT) After seeing what I think is your home in your M3 thread, isn't it prewired? Looks pretty new. If that's the case they aren't going to have to do a damn thing except use what's already there.

Well, it sounds pretty much 50/50... err, 50 (+ good porn)/50.
that is why i was asking here, I could not get a good answer elsewhere. I'm thinking I might go with dish as they offer equipment for 4 tv's at no cost. I havent checked yet, but I must have Setanta Sports so I can catch all my rugby games. If I cant get that then it is no deal.

i live in a cul de sac and no my home isnt new. i know what youre saying but logic doesnt apply to these tools. my basements all finished and i put in tongue and groove ceiling. but i ran cable beforehand but i only ran 1. this was pre tivo. so i either need to rip out my ceiling or come in somewhere else. ive been avoiding it for 2 years cause i dont want these freaks near my house
My parents have had both. Started off with DirecTV, had no real issues with them, but their DSL company offered a really good deal for phone / internet / satellite TV with Dish, so they made the switch over.
Everything was all fine and dandy until they switched over to HDTV. They got horrible customer service. The tech assigned to install it kept calling saying he was going to be late, until it got dark, then realized that he was doing a satellite install, and not a cable box replacement. My mom called, told them not to send that idiot tech again... Dish sent the same guy anyway. He installed the HD satellite dish wrong, and it kept losing signal every 30 or so minutes. My mom called Dish again, and finally they sent a guy out to fix it, but overall, Dish's customer service was absolutely atrocious.
Frankly, I'd go with DirecTV, especially if you're going HD. Fox owns DirecTV, so if you go with Dish, you won't be getting your local Fox station in HD, which blows.
